Got my first Carolina chickadee today at feeder!

Boy, those little guys are fast! Took it a few seconds to grab a mouthful of seeds from my tubular feeder, then off it flashed into the trees. If I was patient, I'd see it again in a few minutes as it came back for another mouthful of seeds. I conferred with a member of a local bird club to ascertain whether this little visitor was a Black Capped or Carolina chickadee. The latter was confirmed. Last week I saw a goldfinch feeding off a dried echinacea seed head. I wonder how long it will take the birds to discover my fountain.

I love the Chickadees, too! They're so darn cute. We have the black capped here. Did they ever find your fountain?

Nobody has been seen at my fountain, which is on the other side of my yard. However, after a week of avoidance, my birdies have once again found my tubular seed feeder. This is a new one, with squirrel proof mesh that slides down under too much weight and has pretty green steel leaves adorning it. They've been hitting the suet feeder pretty well, especially the male and female Hairy/Downy woodpeckers. Now I'm leaning toward calling them Downy. They are so fast, they take a few nibbles and off they go, so it's hard to positively I.D. 'em.
