shrubs.. like trees.. really never stop growing.. sooner or later they need to be pruned or rejuvenated ...

your comment about he perfect size for your spot.. means to me.. that it will eventually outgrow that space ... which isnt really a big deal.. as long as you are aware that you may need to be proactive in the future..

but it does beg the question.. are you skipping other things that might provide more food.. because you want to jam this one in the pot...

perhaps you can get a better plant.. if you figure out how to rework the whole area ... for a better performer..

perhaps a new post.. with pix of what is there and what your goals are.. will get you ideas outside the box you are already sitting in..

I'm in Halifax, Canada, but I think the issue that I'm seeing online is suggesting that it has been breed to produce less berries so I don't know that my location matters that much. But serviceberries generally do very well here!

As for my comment about its size, that's based on it's expected size at maturity, not the size it is now. Even with that, I know some pruning is in my future but because this one is on the smaller size compared to others I feel like I'll be fighting it a bit less! :)

Serviceberries (Amelanchier sp.) are members of Rosaceae, and generally are poor self-pollinators. If you have another (different) selection of Serviceberry growing nearby (in your landscape or a neighbor's) that overlaps in bloom time, I think you will be happily surprised in the increase in fruit production from your tree's flowers.
