Tomatoes Under the Hood?

When my son-in-laws truck wouldn't start, he looked under the hood, There were over 30 tomatoes wedged in various spots and there was the beginning of a nest. Also, a wire had been eaten through, causing the starting problem. A squirrel?? Something else?? My question is, why? Must be a hundred degrees under there since the truck was sitting in the sun. Any why tomatoes? It's not like they keep like acorns.

Has anyone ever had this happen?

Climate change has really worked a number on tomato hornworms. Now they're making tomato jerky!

Maybe not. But a lot of small critters chew and nest in engine compartments and this one probably moved in at night before realizing how how it would get in there. Not sure about the tomatoes though!

In my area, the culprit would be a rat. They seem to like to set up housekeeping in car engine compartments and they much prefer fruits to nuts!!
