a rug depends on your personal style. if the furniture is still in good condition, a good upholstery cleaning is good.

I would repaint if you intend to work with the furniture colors.

Thanks Lyn for responding. The sofa is hardly used but the chairs are newer. You suggest repainting? What color do you suggest? I currently have Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige lightened 70 %.

Table lamps are also needed.

I think it's a choice between the sofa and the art. The sofa is just a bit too compact for the big boxy shape on the wall. The art might be more successful well to the right of the window, the edge of it pretty much where you have that small framed work now (which means you'd need to put the chest and mirror someplae else.

I think the sofa with its back to the window might work, with the 2 chairs facing it, with lamps. You could even bring in the chair from the other room. Might be fun!

Or If you want the art to stay where it is, the sofa facing the art and also the 2 chairs with the end table between them -- might be more interesting. All framed by 2 floor lamps like the one you have now.

If you keep the wheat sofas, I think you need to double down on chocolate and blue accents if you also keep the wood tables and the blue art. So a chocolatey rug, maybe wiith light blue and a little gold in it? And then light blue pillows with brown accents or vice versa? It could be very sophisticated, if unexpected!

This is an incredibly cheap rug from Walmart (Linon Chocolate Medallion) so I'm doubtful about the quality of this one, but I think a rug like this could work with your furniture

As for wall paint, here they look a bit pinkish, I would head toward the evergreen fog and other moody greens, Some throws and pillows will liven up the sofa which appears to be in good condition!

IMO the wall color is the issue I agree something with a bit of green to it I like this cut 50% if you just want a hint of color . Then use the colors from the art for a rug and a couple of pillows .It looks like a pretty tight squeeze to get into the seatin with that coffee tavle maybe a more rectangular one in glass and a bigger end table between the chairs with a lamp. Make sure all the bulbs are the same I like LED 4000K but 3500 K works just all the same

Change the sofa, which is a warm tone and doesn’t work with the cool toned chairs, art and wall. It’s a nice room, and the paler color you are thinking about will be lovely, especially with a rug.

Whenver I have has any shade of green on walls it is has been a depresser, so check it out thoroughly. Green is very trendy now (people finally having tired of the even more depressing grays, always a baffling trend to begin with) but green is super-suburban and not cheerful to me. (Too many green walls in elementary school?) I've also shied away from pinks -- so it's really quite the challenge in the end to decide on wall paint! I prefer very deep saturated colors on walls --a color immersion -- or white, sometimes heading toward sand colors, most of the time to cloud vapors like Steam...

Anyway, if you can right now afford that much re-decoration -- a new sofa plus a new paint job -- worth envisioning in your own head what overall color scheme and feel you want for yourself in your own space. Either you really love the blue painting or you don't -- but if you do, then that's a big clue to the direction you can take. If you want to work with the givens of your furniture -- the dark tables the wheat sofa the blue art -- that's a different analysis, and one that's hard to get good info on the internet about since none of us can see the true colors and light of your room on our screens or know your lifestyle. But indeed new paint might tie all the givens together.

But I do encourage you to at least consider placing that big square of art to the right of your window -- and I just noticed it seems that nowhere else in your room do you have a chair rail except behind the sofa. If you decide to paint, I suggest removing the rail.

What do you personally like the most in the room? You have nice things but right now it's all mostly neutral things that look fine but don't really work well together.

You can mix and spread the neutrals around the room with a rug pattern and pillow patterns to help the neutral palette look more intentional. But, that all depends on if that is the look you are hoping to achieve.

Wow I appreciate all the incoming advice. I have added photos of the entire room from the entry door. I guess I like the art more than the sofa. The sofa fabric has blue in it and the chairs appear as light gray. I am willing to rearrange the room, change furnishings . I have looked at rugs with the rug visualizer with blue and gray tones mostly.

I have also looked at area rugs using the rug visualizer.

You have a very nice room. The thing that stands out to me is the shade on the floor lamp...it seems too orange for the rest of the space, so see if you can find a cooler toned shade. If the sofa is in good condition, I see no real reason not to work with it. It has cool toned blues in the weave. I also don't see why the art would need to be moved, but I might try rearranging the furniture. Could you put the sofa facing the artwork with a sofa table behind it? You seem to have room to expand the seating area seveal inches to a foot to make it a bit easier to get around the coffee table. It is quite a large space behind the chairs. Your things are very neutral, and maybe that is how you like it. I think it needs some color to liven it up, and something dark to contrast with the light colors.

With the last suggestion by Patti would the gray chairs be placed to the left and right or the sofa or adjacent where sofa is currently placed? Thanks for the help!
