I need to know how small and IMO fish tanks ot whatever is in that tank does not belong in a small space you want to furnish.Post a to scale floor plan showing windows , doorways where those lead and things like do you need a TV in there . How many seats daily? Post the plan here ina comment in jpeg format all measurments clearly marked. DO NOT start another post.

Do you need a loveseat or chaise int he room - with a swap putting the chaise by the windows and the chairs opposite of where they are now, and a new rug and reading lamp it could be cozy.

Show a pic of the other side of the room please. How many people sit in here on a regular basis and what do they do read, converse, watch TV? Pull the chairs and table away from the wall about 8". Cool fish tank. I have a friend with a fish tank and I love to sit in his living room and watch it. I get mesmerized to the point of feeling stoned!

A large piece of Art can really bring in a wave of deftness and add more color and life to your room. It acts as a style to your room.

Thank you for your great ideas. The room is 20ft by 14 ft. I used half the room to create a living room. We also have a family room. This is for about 6 seatings. I also need curtain ideas. And the fish tank us staying 🙂

A love seat is a possibility. I would put it under the window and the chairs opposite. Find that item before you buy a rug. The style and size will be more obvious later.

Can you post a photo from the stairs - showing the relation of this area to other items and doors? How close is the fish tank to the eating area?

    Yay for the fish!

I think the art piece that is sitting on the floor would look great over the fish tank. Would it be bad for the art to be there with respect to humidity? Not sure.

Is this settee too much for you? I've sat on one and it is very comfortable.

I honestly don't think you can get six seatings in there on a permanent basis. If you need six, I think you need to pull over 2 of the dining chairs.

Personally I would have a new settee face the window, to help create the feeling of a wall between the living area and dining area.

I think I would probably go with simple white drape panels

For a rug, would you like bold ...

or something more in line with your art or other furniture?

but I do think a plain solid but textured, natural rug would also look nice, in a sandy tone, or an aqua rug if you want to come downstairs and see color on the floor.

    Love it. Thank you

@mytwocents is right - whatever you get (loveseat, daybed, etc) putting the back of it to the eating area gives you a “living room” feel. Six seats is going to be difficult.

It looks like six seats might be very difficult to fit in this space. Maybe look at adding a loveseat and then some ottomans for more seating options.

Hi Beth, we post answers to design dilemmas with the intent to help not just the original poster but also others – now and in the future. So, the posting date is not a concern. We often find we can best communicate our ideas with imagery, which is a common practice if you look at such discussion threads. I appreciate your concern for promoting a positive Houzz community, and I hope you can find the space to accept our way of contributing. Like any community, we don't need to all act in the same way, but it surely is nice to embrace the diversity of expression and experience. Wishing you the best.
