Go darker not lighter. It will camouflage the door make it look like all the glass and black are one large piece. While you are at it the trim should all be black--no white. I would like to see the side /garage facade from the street. That entrance looks more intriguing than this entrance. The white trim made me wonder if it was a different home.

Change the door to full glass to mimic the over scale side lights. Anything less is making the door appear a mouse hole entry.

Whomever dreamed up that combo should be taken to a woodshed.......big stick to follow.

You asked? The CONTRAST at the front entry will never look right. The solid door unless black will not work .The glass will read dark/black in daylight. Any light door, any tone.......result will be same. It won't be pretty : ) and will destroy proportion, as it is now doing and it's exactly what is bothering you, along WITH the orange tone as it reads just that on my monitor.

I do like the 'side' entrance better. It's more cohesive. And truly it's the entrance that will be used 99% of the time. All glass or black for the front door. The glass carries your glassed atrium through. If you prefer the lighter colors, and I 100% agree, why the black windows? It's a very expensive looking home. It just needs a bit of cohesion. Either the white trim or new white windows or it will never be as pulled together as you are wanting it to be.

Agree with Jan’s comments. My2 cents, i would either remove, or move ( reposition, perpendicular? pulling them out some ) ) the planters flanking the front door. They’re making the entry look even narrower, squishing it. A nice wide outdoor rug in a simple design would look better. 1000’s online, your door mat is too small.

Absolutely on these points:

Remove the planters. They look cluttery. (Or at least turn them sideways and pull them away from the door. And trim them back.)

Add a big rug.

Get a black door or glass door. The small door you have now - in a contrasting color - destroys the whole look. It may not actually be small but it looks small because it’s a different color.

Don’t you have an exterior light at the front? Do you have room for a pendant?

It appears to be a very nice home. You can make it better, though.

Beautiful home! Consider taking flowers away from entry and put a larger welcome rug like 4x6 size. Further out on each side of steps could be a pretty planter that compliments in color to put plants in. I like the door style and you’re right that it seems off maybe due to color since nothing else in that area accentuates it to strike a balance. Explore other door colors if wanting to keep it.

It looks to me like the entry area was designed to be a modern glass hyphen connecting two forms referencing separate traditional structures. This illusion was killed when the trim on the hyphen was painted white and the traditional gutter was installed. I would paint out everything on the hyphen black including the door and the fascia. If you wanted some warmth redo the porch ceiling with natural wood. Get a square modern gutter and downspout.

I would start by painting the door black. If that doesn't do the trick I think I would get a glass door that coordinated with the windows on each side and above.

I don't think this is a house where you want to draw a lot of attention to the front door itself, I think you want the entire area to read as a cohesive block of of transparency or dark interposed between the two gables.

Your door area is so different than what is currently being done on most houses that I think you need to get used to it as well. Most houses now have to have a gable and all sorts of things that announce: This.Is.The.Front.Door.Right.Here.Yes.This.Is.It.Right.Here.In.The.Center.For.All.You.People.Who.Are.Easily.Confused.

Many modernist architects deemphasized the entry, and that was not always wrong.

Here it is with a black door and with a glass door. Without a complete entry system you may not be able to do a glass door that looks exactly like the sidelights. But you should be able to get a door with relatively narrow styles and rails with the same divided lites pattern as the sidelights.

I would consider painting the white railing to the right black as well to make that a cohesive black opening, not interrupted by the white. Or changing that to a glass rail at some point.

Here is black eaves and trim on the glass hyphen only, as suggested. This does seem to complete the idea that was started with the central area of the house.

I think if fascia and trim around windows were darker it would look better. The white one kind of disappears on the house ( no contrast especially in upper part of the house)

Stain the door darker or get a full glass door. Remove the planters on either side of the door. Once your shrubs mature to full height it will help balance out the scale. If they are not going to get tall, replace them with taller shrubs.

I 'd go another route. More expensive. Keep the wood tone. It fits the level of house design. The door needs to be wider than the sidelights. You'll have to figure out the correct width. Use cardboard to add width. Maybe just doing the framing would be enough Maybe wood framing the existing door and sidelights. Try all the options.

I think the issue that you are having with the door is more about the color of the door. It does not really blend with the brick in my opinion. Does your brick have gray in it (hard to know with the way computer monitors and how they present color)? If so, what about a dark or light gray door?

How about adding a portico to your front porch area to try to balance things out? This is not the best picture for your situation but was the first one that I found that was in a modern style.

Beautiful home! Before making any adjustments to the home that are hard to change later, consider hiring someone to design a more modern landscape. The planters at the entrance are beautiful but more cottage like in design and far too short. Try some tall dark planters with sculptural grasses. The plants surrounding the home are tiny- can you invest in larger plants? Yes, the ones there will grow, but a few plants that are more mature make an immediate impact. And any chance to plant a few trees? They can help soften the exterior as well.

One thing I’m not seeing at the entrance is lighting. Are they recessed in the eaves?
