again, expensive. I'm just thinking if you spot things like this cheaper you could paint them

Where are you suggesting I put that piece?

this is a steal. 75 inches high. I'd probably paint it but maybe not

So I was thinking it would go to the right of the fireplace but now I see from the other photos you posted that the rest of your room has much more informal furnishing and decor -- so scratch these ideas.

I think it would be nice to have something tall to the right of the fireplace. It could be a console table with some shelves over it or a tall piece of art (or several pieces of art). But the top of the arrangement should come to the middle of the round glass of the mirror or the top of that round glass. You could do a bookcase or cabinet with a dark wood and that would add warmth to the room, or a silver etagere could be nice too. You could buy an etagere or baker's rack in black and spray paint it silver or white.

I would just substitute some art with color for the mirror.

What are you using this room for? What other furniture is currently in it and what is the layout. Is there an open wall/doorway on either side of the fireplace wall?

Kandrewspa has great ideas for you!

Have you tried putting the vase on the floor to the right of the fireplace?

If you like that but it’s not tall enough, you can get a tall narrow vase and tall foliage. I have the one from Crate and Barrel (no longer available) about 20” tall and sturdy.

Then you could rework what is sitting on the mantel, maybe try a garland or a collection of shorter objects.

I had the vase on the floor and then put it up, I had a taller one as well but it looked odd, garland is a good idea

For what it is worth, I think your mantel arrangment right now is quite lovely. That's why I suggested beautiful antiques to go with it. It's unusual, but I would resist suggestions to pull it apart and put conventional Home Depot faux-paintings up there.

Here is a very inexpensive etagere from wayfair

Here is another in gray and silver

You can put some simple white ceramics or silver bowls on these, perhaps some with plants, and silver framed photos, and it will be very nice.

I also think a very tall floor vase could be great

That is from athome.com It's 48 inches high

or if you need an extra chair in the room for when more guests arrive, a gray french chair with a tufted button back or carved wood back could be nice

That is from Royal Art Palace, but you can find simpler ones

Currently there is a sectional opposite that wall, I like the art idea over the Mirror as well, I feel at least one of the walls in that room needs to accented in some way, like slats or something along those lines, it’s missing some pizzazz

I was thinking like Kelli, except trying it on the left hand side. Then I’d lower the mirror just a bit (I like it there) and add art to the other wall.

Or take the sticks out of the vase and move it a few inches to the right, instead of so close to the edge. Then experiment with other mantel decor.

But … I like a lot of art in my house, you might want a more minimal look. If so, one piece or nothing.

Art in these used for mock-up purposes only — for scale and placement ideas — I apologize for how bad they are! I’m not good at mock-ups, clearly. :D

It doesn’t look like there’s room for furniture there.

This is a fantastic idea! You did great, what did you use to do the mock?

Here is a super tall skinny floor sculpture. I just saw similar ones on Open House (TV).

There are a lot of options, including abstracts, if you google.

Julia, I just look for free photo collage sites and use them (I don’t sign up for any). Most posters here use the Paint program, and with much better results, but I don’t have it on my iPad.

I rehashed the plan with some of your ideas, still feels like it needs a little something, but I think this works better? keep the ideas coming! Much appreciated

I recommend you put back what you had.

That looks fantastic, but I’d lower the two pieces of art on the right. The bottom of the lowest one under the height of the mantel a bit. You could cut out paper in the same sizes and tape them on the wall with painter’s tape to get an idea.

I like how they mimic your gallery wall being reflected, it’s a neat illusion. :)

Take 3, I think this is it!

    Looks great, Julia!

ohh I like the arch - a nice way to bring in some curves

You nailed it with take three. The arched mirror is fantastic and the large glass vase makes so much sense there. Well done.
