Jeri - I am always intrigued with china roses which are NOT red, so even if this is not the original Alice Hamilton, it is interesting. I cannot tell from the photos how large the blooms are - are they the typical 1/1/2 inches of chinas, or larger? The photos in HMF seem to show 2 different colors of pink - I like the darker one best. Is it just the normal progression of colors, where it starts out dark, and then turns into a more normal pink color?

If you grow it, could you post a pic of the entire bush?

We grow it at Florida Southern College and I like it a lot. We call it "Not Alice Hamilton." It has a lot of resemblance to 'Old Blush' and 'Napoleon', but is not either. Seems likely it's another sport in that family of mutant variations. In any case, it's a good rose, always in flower and fairly healthy.

I would love to grow a China rose again as it's been so long since I've had one. When I had Old Blush it consistently mildewed just below the flowers and that was a bummer. If Alice does not mildew in Jeri's climate then it should be perfect in my drier garden. Don't know, though, if the ground squirrels would leave such a tasty morsel alone.
