Pantry Open Shelving

Our pantry cabinets just arrived. I’m trying to understand how this will work, it’s not what I envisioned during the planning process. The shelves on the left are supposed to sit on the counter, but it. looks awkward to me. Any thoughts?

What did you envision, and do you have a drawing of your planned elevation? I think it would help to map out what you want to store where. E.g., What items are supposed to go on the counters and how tall are they? In any case, the current design takes away any useability of the counters on the left. Does the shelf system on the left go up to the ceiling? If not, raise it to be level with the bottom of the one on the right. If it already goes up to the ceiling, I'd want to cut it down, probably from the top, so that the bottoms align.

wondering if you envisioned a Hutch-like look? I am installing a hutch cabinet that sits ON the countertop, then the doors are open and pushed back into the cabinet, I can pull out appliances to use, and then push back and close doors for clean storage. (no bottom shelf, it is actually the countertop) Do you have an inspo pix of what you had in mind?

I would remove this and make haging shelves instead of this boxed in version... just sayin'

If drawings were prepared showing what was proposed to be built please post them.

Talk to the person responsible for your cabinets. No one here can know why you have what you have.

Don't get too upset at this stage of the game. The installer isn't finshed, and things are bound to look bad when they aren't done.

Thank you for the feedback. My thinking is if the cupboards sit on the counter they usually have a door of some kind. Otherwise the counter would be exposed. Will wait and see.

I think that typically when cabinets rest on countertops, they cabinets are not as deep as what you show in your picture so that you still have a bit of countertop workspace in front of the cabinet

”will wait and see”. See what? Check the plans and see if what they show is what you want. and if what you have received reflects the plans or your wishes.

IMO any cabinet sitting on the counter is a huge waste of counter space but what did you sign off on as far as rt cabinet went.Did you ordert his with doors then ask where the doors are.We have no idea.

What do the elevation drawings look like?
