Your kitchen designer had to custom design the whole custom cabinet installation around flush inset install, a year ago. This is not something you decide at the last minute.

The plumbing and electrical outlet need to be in very specific locations, for these units. Refer to the design guide starting on page 43. If you have an extra inch and are concerned about the wall being flat, I don't think that would be a problem.

The cabinet seller has its design to leave close to 27'' space (from the wall to the cabinet door) for these columns.

The issue is some mess up on the GC side. (As I type, I almost feel like I should fire the GC -- he was letting his staff coordinating a lot of things, and some of these critical details were missed). GC's team install the tall cabinets with only 25'' space instead (without looking at the design specs sheet from the cabinet seller). They mistakenly cut a tall cabinet side panel (which was 27'' wide) from the cabinet seller to 25'' wide (God knows why). So I am just trying to explore options --- either have the tall cabinets adjusted back to 27'' (door from the wall) and get a new side panel, or leave it at 25'' (but so nervous about not having enough space to make it flush hence my questions). Again, really appreciate everybody's inputs. Please share your thoughts with these additional information that I am providing here.

You're not ready to install the cabinets, much less the appliances.

The GC needs to fix the problems with cutting side panels and not leaving enough space -- and he needs to pay for it. If your plans were explicit and legible, and the GC didn't double-check the plans and his crew's workmanship, he is responsible for the mess that's been created. He needs to understand that he could be facing a lawsuit if he doesn't make this right.

You should NOT be trying to jerryrig a janky solution, given how much time and money you're investing in this project.

You are right. Thank you! Honestly, this whole situation is making me so stressed out.

Mine was 26" total projection, not including the pulls. This was my previous house. I had an excellent KD and all the details were planned before anything was ordered. I also had a great GC that paid attention to all the details.

SZ 24" freezer on left and 36" fridge on right. Notice they were both hinged on the left, which worked best for this kitchen layout and the way we used the appliances.

Ok, so the plot has thickened. Your GC messed up and you are being the nice person seeing if it can work. Don't be the nice person. Don't be the evil person. Be the firm person and point out what is going on and that an expensive mistake was made. Decide how bad it looks and ask for discount or tell them to fix because they screwed up.

The other advantage of 27” depth is that your 25 1/2” deep counters will die into the side panels versus sticking awkwardly past.
