There is no way to advise without seeing pics of the chandelier and pics of the space(s) where all the lights are going.

Here is the crystall chandellier and here is the emty place where the white pendant or flush mount is supposed to be. The dilemma is which one among those three items.

I think Bev's suggestion to go against type is right -- and definitely nothing blingy -- but I have a checkerboard floor in my entry hall and you need a high quality designed fixture, with a quality finish, even if you go against type.

Another question is your fixture and your flush mounts don’t have a resemblence with a crystal chandellier. Is it fine?

Did you do the math in your entry to be sure that anything hanging won't be in the way of the doors when opened?

I think it's fine. It depends on what else is going on in your whole home, If you are being eclectic it's not going to matter at all. It should just look great with the space. Lots of classic shapes go together, across time. However, if you are trying to establish a consistent theme across all of your space of a point in time or a specific place (Paris pied-a-terre) maybe you want to keep echoing the theme. Or if you just want to be amusing...

I think more than the crystals is is the black twisting branches of the chandelier that are visually dominant

I think a flush or semi flush is better in a small foyer. How high are the ceilings?

Flush with flush, pendant with pendant, chandellier with chandellier etc. It is sad there is no authoritative book or manual on how to properly match the lamps in apartments. There must be some guidelines I crave to find yet I managed to find none.

mytwo cents, thank you for posting lanters. Yes, lanterns were also an option. I even tried one but it turned out to be too vintage (it was as old as chandellier itself). It lacked some modern flare. Even though one vintage chandellier is fine and awesome, two vintage pieces of light near by are not fine, looks way too old-fashioned.

So It is hard to find a proper lantern that matches the vintage chandellier on one hand and does not turn the hall place into museum on the other hand.

chispa, the hanging lamp in the foyer (be it a pendant, lantern or chandellier) won't touch the doors when they opened. The bottom of the lamp will be around 6 or 6.5 feet high. So only NBA players will be disturbed by this hanging lamp.

mytwo cents, would you please elaborate on your phrase 'with a quality finish'? How do you tell the quality finish from the other? Do you mean some particular kind of paint or expensive material like brass?

Lighting is really such a personal thing. Any of your lighting options could possibly work.

I do not get a real sense of the proximity of the chandelier to this other fixture. If they are very close to each other, i can understand your dilemma better. I can also understand your trying to bring in more of a ”modern” sensibility.

This might be a long shot - (and I’m not sure if the dimensions on this one will work) - but what about going bold?

There really are ”no rules” style wise, as taste/proximity/size/needs/decor come into play. Therefore, consider the space, in addition to just the chandelier. Based on your examples, looks like you want modern.

As Maureen said, there are no hard-and-fast rules on this sort of thing, because in the end it comes down to your taste and the space it's going in.

I think that your antique chandelier is beautiful and is the important/dominant light fixture. I wouldn't want to add another chandelier that competed with it, is why I suggested a flush or semi-flush. Having a 9 1/2' ceiling allows a fixture that hangs down a bit. And the articles you read about having the all the same type of fixtures in a house doesn't make any sense to me. Consider that many manufacturers make the same basic style in chandeliers, pendants, sconces to coordinate. It depends on the room and the dimensions.

Perhaps consider something modern in the dark finish like your chandelier, but with some crystals to refract and reflect the light? Or the bubble fixture posted by Maureen?
