The best clean up is proper dust containment on the tools from the beginning. A paper filter will burst in no time. Your second best cleanup method is a garden sprayer, stiff broom, and giant aluminum refuse pan. You may never get it fully clean without heroic effort for weeks on end.

Thanks- it is too late for full prevention - but the contractors did a decent job of keeping dust to a minimum. Ii had some stuff covered with plastic and there is just a light coating

of dust.

I'd run the shopvac first with a hepa filter. Then spritz everything down with a misting bottle and wipe it down with tough disposable rags. Yes to the respirator. I'd also shove a towel under all of the doors that lead to this room (basement stair doors?) Wait another day or two for the dust to literally settle and repeat the process.
