I often use antique full sized headboards on queen beds- I just hang the headboard on the wall (like a hotel) and push the bed up to it. This allows me to hang the headboard higher too since most new mattresses are thicker than the old beds were designed for. To your initial question I find footboards take up space and make the bed hard to make.

I am tall and I really dislkke a foorboard our one son is 6'5" he cannot sleep in our one guest room bed with footboard. I do think it is helpful to know your style . We ahve always had platforms beds since relly all a box spring is is exactly what it says a box with some springs that have no impact on anything but no way could they sell an empty box.

I am very familiar with this situation. I had to buy a new bed. Because our son had grown up and it was uncomfortable for him to sleep on the old bed. But it was difficult to choose a suitable bed and it was difficult to deliver it to our house. But it was possible to realize this thanks to the dispatch service.
