An alternative is a sensor on the door that triggers the light to go on when the door is open and off when the door is closed. I had my electrician do this for all my closets (love it).

We have door jamb light switches in the frame, so every time the closet door is opened, the light comes on. We love it.

I'd rather not have to wire anything. Just want something with a senor that will detect the movement of the door opening and not people walking by.

There must be a big crack under the door to let your passing feet trigger the sensor! I agree that a door jamp switch might be the best solution.

The door butts up against a step at the bottom of the closet. It happens if it is dark or light in the house so even if shadows don't hit the door it turns on. I think it may be a heat sensor in the light that is sensitive enough to turn on the bulb even if there is a door between me and it.
