Vertical siding - modern look

I’m wondering if I could get some unbiased opinions (I’m going to try to keep my tone so you don’t know what side I’m on!).
We are building a detached garage which is currently framed.

It will have a cedar planks 16’ garage door on the front. Grey steel siding, black trim and black window frames.

We agreed on vertical siding around the garage with the “triangle” part of the loft horizontal.

The disagreement comes with what vertical means.
A thinks - vertical is board and batten
B thinks - siding that looks like siding but vertical.

The goal is a modern look but NOT modern country.

Which would you choose - A or B?

A - board and batten

B - Vertical siding

I personally would prefer A, however, with your garage door selection, B seems more in keeping. Also, B looks more modern and A looks more modern country, wich you are not going for.

I'm curious, what does the house look like that I presume is in the same visual field as the garage?

Kendrah, we will be re-finishing the exterior of the house with the same vertical siding with a cedar plank accent wall by the front door (horizontal).
This is the rendering (it’s quite dark - we won’t be that dark). Also likely cutting out the stone on the house.

I vote for board and batten, which is what I have on my own home and new garage.

My friend used high tech acetylated wood siding on his entire new house in a vertical direction... even used it on his decks. I bought some too for my architectural accents but I used it horizontally. Its a beautiful dyed-through REAL wood that needs absolutely no maintenance, staining or painting and has a 50 year warranty. If it gets scratched then you just sand it a little since its gray inside too. It's an amazing product, one of my favorite upgrades to my fire restoration remodel.

Its not cheap but you're going to pay a fortune in the long run to maintain that cedar to keep it looking fresh for the entire time it's on your house. Weigh it out.

This is a wide view of what it looks like on my house as a whole - the garage has its own walls, but it connected with a covered breezeway to the side of the house.

A closer look of part of the house - this board and batten was in place when I bought the house, so when I had the new garage built, we copied it for continuity.

B is more modern than A for sure. A looks more transitional, and could lean modern farmhouse.

As a garage door professional and a homeowner myself, I'd prefer board and batten.
