I've had several kinds of plants growing new leaves now. Not so much hostas, although several are blooming. I've seen my dianthus in a hanging pot putting up new plants, a butterfly bush, a weigela, etc. It's crazy, but there it is.

you would think they would be storing energy for next springs emergence.. instead of wasting it on late season leaves...

I would not fertilize. You do not want to promote more new tender growth when they will be going dormant soon.

I guess I'll just keep watering.

I am NOT fertilizing this late in the season. They all done got their Osmo-cote early in the growing season, they got watered, they got weeded, trimmed, and admired. Don't wanna spoil them now! The lantana, marigolds (OMG, I seem to have bought the marigolds that ate Baltimore, they grew so profusely in my stone planter!) geraniums, dianthus, portulaca,calibrachoa, petunias, roses, fuschia, gaillardia, monarda, echinacea, shasta daisies, and carnations are still going strong. Winter will be a darn shame except for killing the mosquitoes.

My Winter Snow now has three re-bloom flowers now. Not sure the warm weather will be around long enough for them to open. That makes 6 re-bloomers this year.

I have had a few do that too. Some look like it is the end of the road for them only to be right back with smaller leaves but looking good again. So Sweet totally spazzing out with new growth. I stop feeding at the end of September. I need them to start thinking about going dormant. It has been a great hosta year, and my guys loved the greenhouse. They have to be out by the middle of November but I do not think they want to go .

Yeah, So Sweet is the main one flushing, and it's looking like spring with her. Captain Kirk is flushing pretty much the same, but the new leaves are almost green instead of variegated. I'm looking out the window, and I can't remember her name, but one of the large, solid green ones is putting out a new eye, too.

I would guess it's the weather. It's been the 3rd hottest summer on record and we had no rain for 53 days. We got a good rain Wednesday night. We're still about 10" behind normal.
