Some hosta are flushing

last modified: 2 years ago

I know this must be strange for October, but some of my hosta are putting out new leaves. The oppressive heat has abated. it's still in the 90's most afternoons, but it's cooler overnight. We had a little rain. Most look like they are coming from dormant, new eyes. Most are small leaves, but Captain Kirk is putting out full sized leaves.

The leaves look like they need fertilizer. Should I fertilize them?

I wonder what the deal is?

edit: our first killing frost is usually Nov. 15.
