Oil Stains on White Marble?

Reposting my question in hopes of getting answers to the question, rather than snark.

Hi all, I'm reupping a common past topic here which is dealing with oil stains on marble - specifically, white marble. I have new white Danby marble counters. They're great, but susceptible to oil marks. (They are definitely sealed, as I have an unsealed remnant I use in my kitchen and the difference in absorption between them is obvious.) I know they'll patina and am fine with that, but want to proactively be prepared to deal with larger or more serious stains when they inevitably arise.

I've seen a lot of conflicting info both here and online - use the Stonetech stain remover, or don't; poultices making stains worse; don't use acetone on light marble, or do; etc. What's the current best practice?

@HU-918119203 - I'm so sorry to hear that you already have stains! My counter won't be installed for another 6 weeks, but Ashley from the Gold Hive blog has marble counters and just recommended this etch remover product - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJPJSJGK

BTW, what color did you paint your kitchen?

Current best practice is to chill. Embrace the patina. Unless you want to spend the same cost you just spent on the stone, and coat them in a plastic resin so they look like laminate.

If I remember correctly, @Diana Bier Interiors, LLC has had Danby olympian for quite some time, loves them, and has a lot of knowledge about them. Perhaps she will comment here with an answer that pleases you or maybe you can contact her directly on Houzz. Also, did you try to revive the old post and see if anyone replies?

Our Danby is a couple of months old and we definitely have oil stains. It is sealed and we have no other stains (and only one etch) but lots of oil stains. I can’t seem to get to drips/splatters/etc. quickly enough. Do sealers just not protect against oil? Is Danby more susceptible than other marbles?

Julie Blanner's blog has a wealth of info on sealing and cleaning and oil stains on Danby. Somethings made it worse. With oil it is a matter of getting it up as quickly as possible, and of course embracing the "I don't mind patina" if the stain can't be removed.

Maybe .you should just slather the whole counter in olive oil or butter and get it done all at once. Didn't SJP or Lady Goop squeeze lemons on their new marble counter to get the etching over with?

I read the blog page and I’m not sure Julie Blanner knows what she is talking about. It seems to me that she thinks oil stains and etching are the same thing (that oils cause etching).

You are right Blueskysunnyday. She has a decent series on Danby and I see now on this post she is treating etching as an oil issue not an acid issue. Confusing. Some of her other Danby posts are less so. Enjoy yours. It sounds like you are able to embrace the laid back marble attitude that I was never able to achieve with mine.
