Help with exterior, please.

last modified: 2 years ago

Below are photos showing the current state of our home (after substantial construction delays). We are seeking exterior finish ideas. Have been considering mid-gray shingle with white accents, but are wide open to creative ideas. May also want to change the design of the portico over the front door.

We plan to deck/patio the rear, with a pergola on the right side of the rear deck/patio.

Any constructive input appreciated!

I think an 8" bevel siding would look great on your house. Not a fan of gray, maybe a blue? Front porch and roof could look better being a bit wider. Where on LI (I am in Hauppauge at work and live out east)?

Looks like it will be a lovely home. I also am not a fan of gray-seems for a while every other house in our neighborhood was being painted gray. Now, white (especially with black windows which they are calling 'modern farmhouse) is the go-to color, so pretty soon everything will be white or gray. Boring. I would try a light (or not) sage and I would go with siding. We have Hardi Board and love it. No upkeep. I picture shingles on smaller cottage style homes or large Cape Cod/Nantucket/Martha's Vineyard seaside homes I think yours is more formal. Your windows won't need shutters, so no need to worry about those.

Hope the construction delays are few from here on out.

ETA: when you get to your deck, I can recommend Millboard (US distributor is Outlive at Millboard) . We just turned our deck into a screened porch and used the Millboard for the flooring and the steps outside going to the patio and then down again to the garden level. Great stuff and anyone who sees loves it and it asks what it is. Another product with practically no upkeep-wash with soap and water once or twice a year unless you want to do more often. That is it. No sealing ever.

I was leaning towards sage...alas, wife not into it.

We'd probably go with a fairly strong gray - like a charcoal...

Do you have an elevation you could show, and a picture of the front taken from the opposite corner?

What's over the garage? A room with high ceilings? I'm thinking about the blank expanse of wall above the upper window there.

Over the garage is a family room with a 14' ceiling. over that is attic space. Attaching elevations, but they aren't 100% up to date.
