Oh, so much better IMO! The pantry needlessly shrunk the dining area and the "hallway" between the pantry and gun room was awkward. But that box in the corner probably wasn't an oven though as there's the cooking appliance is labeled, "range with vent above".

Thanks for your opinion! This is a weird pic but it is how the pantry is going to look. Our architect still needs to update the drawing to make it more flush with the fridge. And yes, the double ovens are in the corner. I saw them like that at my sisters house, and loved the huge storage cabinet above them! But I am open to any suggestions!

Also, I don’t think the range has to be centered with the island. I just see it done like that and to me it looks nice!

You inspo pic shows the fridge flush with pantry rather than pantry sticking out. if it’s flush it’s barely big enough. i don’t understand what the purpose of this dining area is? with pantry doesn’t really look big enough for much of a table. i’d consider expanding counter overhang to have a stool at that end. i’m assuming there is a bigger dining area somewhere??

Your layout isn't going to look like that photo. My design books says,

• "The size of the individual eating space on the table should be based on a frontage of 24" and an area of approximately 2' sq.
• "Desirable room for seating is a clear 42" all around the dining table. The following minimum clearances from the edge of the table should be provided: 32" for chairs plus access and passage; 42" for serving from behind the chair; 24" for passage only; 48" from table to base cabinet (in kitchen)."

The pantry robs 4' from the dining area and another 30" is required for the pantry door swing. What size table are you going to be able to fit in the "dining" area? Is that a staircase; you can't put a table or chairs close to that. Why do you to waste space for the "hallway" between the pantry and gun room?

You're going to waste counter space for a double-oven tower in the corner? How is that going to look? (IMO: bleccch). How about a double-oven range instead?

Yeah, the issue with the corner ovens is that it breaks up what ought to be very useful span of counter space between sink and range, creating just a dinky space next to sink. Can also be visually overpowering depending on the design. You can get storage somewhere else.

Symmetry is not important to me, it may be to you :) But the way a kitchen looks on the layout or when it's photographed for Houzz, is really not how it is experienced in life!

I agree with others that your dining area is not that -- it's a hallway. Ask the architect to draw in a table and chairs and the 42" bubble around it to see.

Thanks everyone! I am taking everyone’s advice. I am NOT a designer and have a hard time visualizing things. I am going to switch things around like cpartist did above. The only thing is that I am afraid we won’t have enough pantry space. Maybe we will have a cabinet maker build some pull out shelves. Anyway, I appreciate everyone’s honesty and help.

just another vote for @cpartist layout - so nice! FWIW whenever I see an appliance or fireplace on a diagonal I always think the builder ran out of room for a proper layout

I think cpartists design looks nicest but i love a pantry too. i think it really depends on what you are trying to fit in the dining area. if this is your only dining area i’d be making kitchen smaller. If its unused space a pantry isn’t crazy. hard to give good advice without more information…

if you took the space from the gun room you could use that as a pantry or just a bit more storage inset into the wall what’s going on with the other rooms a bigger floor plan might help.

W.r.t. cpartist drawing. When the dishwasher door is down, you want to be able to open the refrigerator door enough to get any internal drawers fully open. This may depend on the size of the filler strip between them along with the design of the refrigerator door hinges. Check fridge installation drawings.
