My sister sent me some photos from SE Mass. She went for a walk somewhere there and says these things are littering the ground. Any idea what they are? She said it never occurred to her to look at the trees. Not sure when she'll get back to this spot to check again.

    Possibly a white oak acorn. They sprout in fall, vs red oaks which tend to sprout in spring.
