It looks very nice! My critique is the green chair looks lonely. It only has that small stool next to it. Maybe a larger stool/table? Maybe a lamp?

The wallpaper(??) on the back of the hutch takes away from your beautiful yellow plates. A solid blue or a textured blue would have made the plates the star. I love the green and black platters on the wall it gives a nice pop of color. It's so refreshing to see lots of color being used!

shirlpp- I agree, something isn't right with the green chair! Maybe it needs to go completely? No way to easily wire a lamp or table in that location since it's high traffic and the chair is almost in the way as it is.

    love2browse -
The paper backing the hutch actually is a somewhat of a textured blue. I just happened to have extra of it from a project my mother in law did for her hutch (that is similar to mine). It took me so much time! I appreciate the feedback. Do you think that the yellow Quimpar plates stand out enough? I mean, they are competing with a fuschia rug as well! Haha.

I think it's lovely but also suggest you carry the yellow and red color scheme to both sides of the dining room. Could you find bright yellow shades for your buffet lamps? Get some cranberry glass to mix into the crystal on the side table and find a more colorful red/yellow art work than the fish, or re-mat the fish with a bright red/gold piece of Chinese embroidery.

Think about recovering your chair seats in a bright yellow/red fabric

I would look for a ruby red crystal teardrop (big) to replace the clear one at the bottom of your chandelier.

    chair fabric?

The rug is actually a fuschia pink, not red. I appreciate and respect your wonderful ideas!

The buffet lamps are actually the same as the yellow pottery, just a bit more demure. Equally beautiful!
My husband and I agree that the fish painting is simply a placeholder until we find something else. Although it is sentimental and hand painted from a dear friend, we are constantly looking for a piece of art to take its place

I am in love with this red dog piece! Thank you so much for sending! On my Christmas list!

I like your unusual wallpaper on the back of the hutch and it[s fine with your blue vases on the table too.

Thank you! The white pumpkins surrounding are seasonal of course :)

My question is : does the space beyond the dining room flow together without looking messy?

The beautiful yellow pottery was a gift to my mother in law from my husbands grandmother for her weeding. Beautiful French hand painted pieces

blfenton - i respect that! My MIL is also my interior designer, and she purchased that while we were trying to bring more white and bright into the room and house. Like I said, I like classic pieces mixed with fun and new. I think it works considering the fact that the dining room is literally the funtastic room in the house!

I bought this exact piece for my MIL for Christmas! Hope she doesn't see this

As for flow, I think the painted armoire in the other room makes the connection to the dining room.

Have some of the yellow Quimpar in kitchen to tie in. Thank you for all of your suggestions. Any and all advice for living areas greatly appreciated as well!

The Dagmar piece... Finally somebody appreciates the beauty!

Not sure if it would help but maybe two ottomans instead of the green chair.

Next to the green chair, suggest replacing the garden stool with a fairly simple but taller side table (glass?) and putting a portable rechargeable lamp on it. If you do a google search you will come up with different styles -- they are almost always much smaller than conventional table lamps -- but this is one I think might look nice with your eclectic decor, in a khaki finish, with a book on the table too

My other suggestion would be to get a sofa throw with a blue or color scheme that is closer to your Dagmar armoire

and then someday, if you see just the right yellow-gold-mustard sofa slipcover, replace the white one in the media room with a yellowy or orangey one. I'd be tempted to this, keeping all the same pillow you have, but it might be too much!

PS: I saw the MIL gift so you can delete it. I'm going to delete mine.

Fwiw, I have lots of unique clothes I love as well as unique furniture, and I often ask my spouse "How do I look?" And I always ask his opinion about furniture (left on his own, he would have a desk with an office chair and otherwise the house would be empty!) My spouse is a great opnion check because he sees what he sees, not what he wants to see (like I do when I'm invested in my choices). So sure -- normal to ask people what they think, and it's fun. Plus, I never decorate totally for myself. I'm decorating to delight other people and that they'll feel comfortable when they're in the space.
