I have several of the same problems as you--giant mirror, traditional chrome plumbing, sink not exactly centered, light fixture not centered (not even close), all over a 28-in wide vanity if you can believe it. I am pulling the contractor grade mirror and buying a slightly smaller one in a minimal frame, centering over sink. For the light, I had to go w/one that has a larger backplate to cover the junction box that's 3 inches off center. This narrows the options considerably. But I found several I like, and ended up ordering one from Matteo Lighting that will marry the traditional existing elements w/my more modern taste. Backplate will cover hole so I can center the light over the new mirror. Freeing up a little wallspace also will make it all look better than wall to wall mirrors, I think.

@Susie Those are pretty - I considered going gold but think I am going to have faucet chrome so will probably get light to match it. And yes, I am definitely replacing the boob light lol. Thank you for the reassurance and suggestions!

I think it would also improve the bathroom if you upgraded to mirrors with a pretty frame.

Paula, The bath project came about because it's all 27-years old and parts have broken that cannot be repaired. But, yes, it's more than we HAD to do. The room is just so ugly. It's a downstairs/grade level en suite for a guest room, but it's used mainly by family who are out in the yard or working in the garage. Still, it called for help, and why not go ahead while we're replacing the faucet that quit working and the tile countertop with drop-in sink that was a mess, etc.

The existing faucets and lighting are chrome, which would not be my choice, but because 16 years ago we'd added nice towel bars, soap dishes, tissue holder in chrome and some of it is drilled into tile, we're keeping chrome. The bathtub is good, so is the toilet, and tile is solid (except on countertop/backsplash), even if it's not something I really like.

So instead of the absolutely necessary--new sink to replace the drop-in, new countertop to replace the tiled one, new faucets/showerhead, here's the sum total of what we're about to do:

1) new quartzite countertop with backsplash in Perla Venata, from a remnant yard, and generic smallish undermount oval sink from fabricator; 2) new faucets etc., Delta Cassidy in chrome. They're traditional/transitional and play well w/the existing chrome accessories without matching them; 3) removing the cabinet over the toilet as we don't use it and it crowds the wall. Plus it's hung too high and hides the angled ceiling. After painting out the wall, we're adding a chrome/glass floating shelf (can be hung with our without the bottom towel rod) in the Cassidy pattern, discontinued and on sale for $75 at Wayfair, and 2 little traditional pen and ink drawings framed in black textured wood repurposed from elsewhere; 4) new mirror, somewhat smaller, in an interesting shape, from Wayfair for $115 and very heavy, nice quality. It's matte black, but also available in gold; 5) the Matteo Rosa 3-globe light in matte black and cut glass. The backplate covers the off-center junction box and the width is about the width of the top of the mirror. I'll most likely hang it with the globes hanging downward, against the dark gray wall and just above the mirror. My thinking w/the cut glass is to refer to the chrome without actually BEING chrome. A chrome fixture with a 16-in backplate is a lot of shiny. It wasn't easy to find something with the full backplate that looked good and was transitional, and, though I also love the Matteo Kristof in black matte/crystal, the 4-light was too large and the other option, a 2-light, too small. This was my splurge piece, on sale at $385 w/ free shipping; and 6) we're painting out the yellowed maple cabinet which coordinates with nothing and has ancient dripping varnish, in a gray 2 shades lighter than the walls. Walls are Sherwin-Williams Backdrop and cabinet will be Requisite Gray. I bought 2 chrome knobs for the cabinet doors, discontinued and on sale for $9 each from Rest. Hardware. They match the towel bars and tissue holder.

So it will be a significant upgrade without requiring actual demo. I hope it all comes together to make the best of the components we're not willing to spend the money to change.

Wow, that is a wonderful plan, and you have certainly made the most of your budget. Really pretty light fixture - and I especially like the idea that the cut glass mimics the chrome via "shiny". I wish I had it in me to do a full reno or even as much as you are doing, but I just...don't. I had a hidden but very damaging water leak in my kitchen that ended up causing the whole living area (breakfast/dining/den/living/foyer) being out of commission for 4 mths and my experience with servpro and construction folks has scarred me for life lol. I am also hoping to be moving within 18 mths and at this point I just want normalcy.

Your colors and choices are lovely - that faucet is in the running here. Faucets have proven confusing to me d/t nonoverflow sink and most faucet drains being for overflow sinks. I have decision fatigue I'm sure! Best of luck with yours.
