Not yet. It has been still a bit early here. Got hit yesterday with a weird non-frost, almost-complete-but-not-quite-zapping of annuals and other plants, so I'm going out today to clear out the annuals, start on digging the dahlias, and gathering the few pots I have to bring into the garage.

I don't have a lot, just about half a dozen things I didn't get around to planting - mostly because the annuals and dahlias in the intended spots were still going strong lol. I have about two hostas, a callicarpa (bought one to replace a dead one but the dead one wasn't really dead!), a rhodie, a viburnum, and one or two other things.

Hopefully it will be a nice day to work outside! Rouge, you are very organized and neat!

Just tossed in and not yet arranged is a hydrangea or two and a wayfaring tree given to me years ago that I yet have not planted in ground. Also many pots of tenders, geraniums, petunias and even had dug up the 'Vanity' verbena bonariensis, as I'd like to see how these perform in their second year and also take cuttings as well, the variety was a star performer! Also, am holding over a good deal of salvia 'Mystic Spires' ... yes, talk about a superb plant! My dahlias are in the coldroom, though these require attention as to being properly stored, otherwise they're gonna shrivel all up and croak on me! Have a few more dahlias still out in garden and these am contemplating if I want to bother with them or not. Oh, also in the garage is the gorgeous penstemon 'Arabesque Red', these are not hardy enough to winter here and I always intend to dig and hold some over, this year have finally done so!

'Vanity' verbena bonariensis,

@FrozeBudd_z3/4, I know that somewhere this past winter there was a thread about this verbena so this might already have been answered but can you tell me again if 'Vanity' self seeds like the more common Verbena bonariensis ("Tall" verbena),

My garage looks like yours but it’s because of my euphorbia and heliotrope. Thankfully my perennials can all live outside but I’m going to see if I can get these annuals to bounce back in the spring.

Well, now look at how organized you are -- good job tucking everything in there, it's not easy when you also have to stuff pottery and such in a small space.

I haven't gotten around to storing stuff yet. I'm usually pretty late with all that -- as long as I get the pottery pulled in by mid-December I'm fine with it. If there's a signifcant snowstorm predicted, then I'll hustle and get the pots in the barn. The potted perennials and roses/shrubs freeze solid anyway, and we don't usually get the brutal weather until after Christmas or so, so I'm never too concerned with those. I'm down to very little this year -- I believe I only have two potted Austin roses, a "Spun Silk" daisy, an Aralia "Sun King", and the "Halcyon" hosta that's been growing in a big ceramic planter for years. That's it. I'm kinda proud of myself, this is the first year I can recall I've had so little to over-winter. I'm in purge mode and found a good home for lot of really nice stuff I had to get rid of due to needing to thin out the beds.

I'm still working on thinning and transplanting this weekend :0/

Dee, don't be so hard on yourself, if I could have all the money back upon all plants purchased (and killed), am sure I could build a comfortable home and not joking either! Two hundred pots, that's a LOT to manage without it managing you and yet always going back for more, I guess, I might be seeing you one day soon at Plantaholics anonymous:). Yesterday in the sunny warmth, I fell and bucked up a few dead trees to bring firewood to the house, love sitting in cozy comfort near to the fireplace. But, now I should get my rear into the garage to do that organizing and also downstairs to tend the dahlias, but well, it's overcast and uninspiring and another cup of coffee sounds better, who's slacking now? LOL. :)

Rouge, I couldn't tell you of the seeding rate of 'Vanity' because plants did not come to maturity for all the rainy weather this summer, am sure they'll be as aggressive as any others. Loved this one for the "slightly" more intense coloring and mass bloom, the somewhat more restrained growth is appreciated, but in fertile soil it certainly is not nearly as compact as claimed, things just like to grow for me it seems!

Me too! LOL. I had actually hoped to have even less (I'm looking at you, hostas and peonies I meant to plant since spring!) but in my indecisive world I keep changing my mind about where to put things. Plus I am REALLY trying to pay attention to "mature size" and not try to squeeze/plop things in where they fit *NOW* only to have to dig them up later. So a lot of walking around with my measuring tape and realizing some things were bigger than I thought! And then the whole "peonies don't like to be disturbed" thing makes me nervous to actually plant one in the ground in case, as usual, I change my mind lol.

I just came in from the garden for a break and I am making a list of chores for the spring. I'm really making a determined effort to be more organized, make a plan and stick to it! Right now I'm all fired up and rah-rah but come spring I'm sure I'll be wandering around the garden thinking, why did I want to do that...?

That's hogwash. These things are tough as nails. I've moved them many times, even digging and taking the very same Festiva Maxima I bought as a one-eyed wonder over 25 years ago with me to two different houses. (he turned into quite a beauty and has had multiple offspring over the years, too).

Agreed. I removed one a few seasons ago and I still have bit and pieces of it come up each season.

Speaking of peonies, I have a self sown seedling of gorgeous full double purple red, must have come from the semi double of the near same color, funny how the seedling is all round superior in bloom, foliage and habit, fine job bees!

Lol I wish I had seen these responses BEFORE I just came inside and cleaned up! I would have popped those babies in the ground today! But thank you for letting me know. It's a huge help since I have two new ones to plant, one that's been in a pot for years I want to plant, another on my wish list for spring, and one I stuck in the ground last month and just know I'll want to move in spring lol. I am very relieved to hear this good news!

Very impressive, all of you!

I used to think and rethink every plant placement but years later decided it's still a mess and maybe the things I had to have weren't as important as I thought they were, so now everything gets plunked into kinda good spots, and the shovel and saw come into play when it gets out of hand. I guess I get a little bored as well, so not even the real expensive things are not safe, which is one of the pluses from starting with cheaper little things, free cuttings, and seeds.

Anyway last week again was a one hour till dusk, everything's going to freeze tonight, rush getting the last pots into the garage and basement -even though I thought I was doing pretty good up until then. There are still unplanted perennials and shrubs, small exposed pots of hardy cuttings and seedlings, tulips to be planted, leaves to be mulched, lawn to seed, dahlias to dig, cannas as well...

What a carefree and relaxing hobby :)

But if it doesn't get done there will still be daffodils in April and spring will be great anyway. I'll just mulch over last year and start something new!

(but I'm really going to try and work on it today... after this and maybe another coffee of course)
