Oh, and the diamond tiles are dark blue.

You need a new shower curtain, I would look for one with white, dark blue and light blue.

Then you can choose a blue for the walls. I wouldn't do a dark color on top.

But.....my husband REALLY likes existing curtain.

I concur with eld161. That shower curtain needs to be replaced. Is there another, larger bathroom you can put i=t in for your husband?

Oh, do I wish we had two bathrooms. He wants to know what's wrong with it? I don't like the golds in it, never have. Thanks.

What is your favorite color? In a bathroom with no natural light you can actually go with a saturated color that will help brighten the space. No need to keep it to a bland neutral. In fact painting it something like a white, will make it feel gray.

Sorry, but what do you mean by "saturated color"? I like blues and greens. I prefer it to be lighter, not dark since the room is kinda small.

Since you have a dark blue diamond tiles, you should think about using that color for your walls. It really doesn't matter if you have a window or not as long as your lighting is adequate.

We have a windowless bathroom in our northwoods home that we purchased recently. There is wallpaper with small pine cones on it on the bottom of the walls instead of tile. I did not like the yellow paint color on the top that the previous owner had chosen but I didn’t mind the wallpaper. At first, I looked at off whites, creams and tans that I thought went with the backgound of the wall paper but nothing wowed me. I decided to use the dark brown color of the pine cones for my paint color. I wondered if I was crazy to put dark brown in a bathroom but since its only paint it could be changed.

I absolutely love how the saturated brown color looks and so does everyone that has seen it.

    Here is the overall look

And a couple close ups with some art work

    Heres a before and after

I also changed our primary bedroom from white to a saturated green.

    Don’t be afraid of color.

Badgergal....that looks really nice. Thank you for sharing!

@badgergal Your paint color choices are really great! Can’t believe how much richer the dark tones look. The bathroom wallpaper looks 100% improved with the rich brown. peggy I, show your husband how pretty a shower curtain that goes with the bathroom looks in badgergal’s bathroom. For your room I’d try to color match the dark blue tiles for upper walls & I’d find a shower curtain with lighter color panel & a design with the dark blue in it - just like badgergal’s shower curtain border matches her brown walls with a lighter center. Your towels could change to white with dark blue borders.

ETA: paint a color sample on large piece of poster board to try the dark blue out & see the change it would make to your lower half of walls

A color that isn't too grayed over. More of the "pure" color.

peggy - Love that shower curtain! It looks like it might be perfect - dark bottom / light top - the opposite of walls with light bottom / dark top. And it has trees like your current curtain that your husband loves! Win - win! I noted the white floor - maybe a blue patterned rug in front of vanity would be nice too. Think about it.

What about painting your vanity navy and keeping walls as they are?

Love your new shower curtain choice! Consider a 3’ x 5’ rug in front of navy vanity:

@ginatay124 We have considered painting the vanity dark blue, but the walls are really in need of fresh paint too. We like wood and go back and forth on painting it cuz there's no going back. Thanks!

@ginatay124 it is difficult to see, but the walls are white with a faint off white sponge paint. I need a change from that look.

Lol, this oak vanity was given "new life" years ago when we stripped the dark stain. You can still see that dark stain in the oak grain. Maybe yet another "new life" in blue? Hmmm

peggy - I agree with you - no painting of vanity - as you say, once done no going back! If it were in bad shape then that’s another situation entirely. I always wonder about the durability of the paint jobs over cabinets - do they chip & wear at the corners & around handles? Changing out handles / knobs for updates makes more sense to me.

Agree! Our exact thoughts on painting....will it look good for awhile? We've looked at new vanities and tops, but it's not in the budget at the moment. This vanity has nice wide shelves for towels behind each end door. It could probably use some updated drawer glides, but otherwise it's in good shape.

As your bathroom has no natural light I would make sure you have good lighting in the room and use daylight bulbs in all fixtures if at all possible. And I would not paint the walls in even a medium blue; I would get a pretty white and have the paint store tint it with blue so it’s just a whisper of color. And I would definitely paint the vanity. Your most durable material in that room is the tile, which will last far longer than a wooden vanity. Priming it and painting it with a good quality enamel paint would give you a nice hit of blue without further darkening the room (since the vanity is already brown). Give it a couple of coats, lightly sanding between each application, and it will last. You can alway touch it up if necessary.

@kswl am I understanding? You suggest a hint of blue on the walls AND on the vanity?

I never thought about painting the walls a dark blue, but that would really work with the current shower curtain, too, that your husband likes so well, @ peggy l. Think the dark blue walls, current shower curtain, and current cabinets will look great!

peggy, I think dark blue walls would give you more "bang for your buck" than painting the vanity blue. I was surprised to see you found a forest theme shower curtain in blue and white. Since the shower curtain has some lighter blue in it you could go with a lighter blue on your walls but it in my opinion it will not look as rich as a dark blue would.

KW PNW Z8: thanks for the compliment about my paint choices.
