I do not like sconces wired in for bedside but I need to see your space . Do you read in bed? I find sconces generally poor for reading unless a really good bulb and an adjustable sconce .IMO neither of those would be my choice. So more info maybe you will get better help. Post that info here along with a pic of your space post in comments DO NOT start another post .

I would get a remote if you can. See if you can get one that mounts on the wall, then you can remove it and keep it by your bed during the night.

Is the bed already in place and you're adding lights? If so, I would get it bed and reach to see where the light switch should go so it's comfortable for you. And are you sure you don't want adjustable sconces? That way, you can move them closer for reading. I'd also put the lights on dimmers to help lessen the impact if one person falls asleep before the other. You could tape out the switches and lights on the wall before installation to double check the placement.

The space is new- no drywall yet. Yes, I’d like to read in bed and want to keep my nightstands as free as possible. I like the remote idea- thanks. This is our new headboard- if that give any ideas. Not sure how high/low to place them.

stiley, yes to your suggestions except I can’t really test it out yet. My husband doesn’t like the adjuatable arm kind, so doubtful we will get that kind- but perhaps I can convince him.

OK, I just hopped in my bed and tried it out. We have switches but they're too far away for me. They're about 10" away from the headboard, and I wish mine was about 6" away; I'm 5'4". The middle of the switch is 36" off the floor, which is good for me and allows books etc to be on the nightstand without getting hit when I use the switch. I also wish my light was closer to the bed. I didn't think ahead like you are because I thought the designer we paid would do the proper placement. I should have practiced "trust but verify"!
