I probably would have done recessed lighting in that space unless you plan to use it as a dining room.

People might scream but I would also consider putting a dual head ceiling fan there, or just retro-look caged single head one that is angled and rotates. I'd like to be able to sit there on a sunny warm day with windows and the screen slider open and feel a breeze

I would then use floor lamps and table lamps for reading, If you don't have easy to reach outlets, get rechargeable portable cordless lamps. Buy good quality ones. despite the price. They're wonderful. Even the very slender minimilast ones give suffiicient reading light. They come in basic neutral finishes

However, as much as you don't want workfolk back in the house, once youve got your optimal seating arrangment, consider recessed lights if it will best for enjoying the space.

Recessed lighting seems like a good idea. My other half, who worked so hard building our home disagrees. ☹️

recessed lighting can limit your choices down the road for furniture placement, and some people just don't like it. I resisted recessed lighting in one home I had but opted for it in places in my current home because I knew I was never going to be chaning the furniture arrangment in those rooms, and I wanted more light in the rooms than lamps or one chandelier was going to get me.

You haven't posted a lot about this room but from what little you have it seems it is plainly a room that is meant to be enjoyed by the homeowners primarily and used frequently, so no reason not to prioritize that and then figure out from there how to make it charming to look at every day as well.

That hemlock ceiling is gorgeous! I'm in the middle of a new build myself, and I'm doing recessed lighting - I like it, as long as it's not the only light source - but also adding many lamps and sconces to provide plenty of warm light across the room. You need a console table somewhere that you can put 2 lamps on - that would help provide lovely light. If your husband won't agree to recessed lighting, put some wall sconces up - they have models that plug into an outlet so you don't have to run new electrical in the walls. Cautionary note: I have seen many people put their sconces inches away from the ceiling, which is ridiculous, so please don't do that.

we planned on cedar but so expensive! Pine is so orange!! We have hemlock in this Sunroom/reading area as well as the front porch. the pic dorsnt fo it justice. I plan on a brass gooseneck lamp between the chairs. other pieces are ordered. The double sliders are a south southeast exposure. CongraCongratulations on your new build. so exciting!!!!
