in the past, I have made one with plywood and cleats. But always used a tablecloth to cover it.

I would get as many folding card tables as needed and just line them up. You can use sheets of poster board to span the cracks if you want to be fancy. A table cloth is required, of course.

I used 2 saw horses and a piece of plywood for years while I saved for my dream DR table a really nice huge table cloth and could sit 12 at it. On day to day we just used a piece of plywood 1/2 that size Stored them in th garage . We now have a glass DR table that seats 6 day today and 10 when expanded. There are so many cool expanding tables .

All the big box supply stores and Amazon sell big folding tables that people generally use for big picnics. They are generally about $50 or less and when you don't need them they will easily go into your garage or basement/attic. They are sturdy and you can buy a $15 tablecloth for looks.
