November to Remember

Houzz bites twelve different ways. After years on this forum, suddenly I couldn’t open posts, start a new post, or add pictures.Nooo … I had to get their app. As if my devices weren’t cluttered enough already.

At any rate … here is Dr. Grill with a bright red underlip, so to speak. I’ve had this rose for seven years, but this is a new twist.

Thanks for nothing, Houzz. Never mind. Here are some more from today.

Below, Huntington’s 100th/Life of the Party. Seems to be allowing only one photo to be posted at a tine

Time. Wouldn’t let me correct the typo. Grrr.
Here is Love Song. Thanks, Diane!

I have more photos to post, but the confounded thing won’t let me.. only shows these I’ve already put up.
Could somebody please create a new, better, less intrusive, glitch-free forum??

Sylvia, you are one of many that have had similar problems with the big Aitch Double Oh Zee Zee, and most have been told to get the app. I'll be gone if it comes to that for me. I'm happy to see your beautiful Love Song is still blooming away, plus all the other lovely November roses. My roses were frozen out, the blooms, that is, before Halloween. The deer didn't help either, but now it's warmer, and I've still got calendula blooming, plus some snapdragons and alyssum. Or maybe they are just hanging on to old blooms. Good luck with future posting and everything else. For me, November means I'm now 78. Ugh. Diane

Because this is just awful. I feel as if I’m on an ice floe, slowly drifting away from all my fellow rose-lovers …

Thanks, Diane. You are always a calming presence.

Any solutions out there from more tech-minded people? This feels like Twilight of the (Rose) Gods.
On another subject, we are expecting RAIN today. It’s decently cloudy and brooding right now. Fingers crossed.

Diane, happy birthday! I turned 75 on Monday. Wonderful day with my husband and son. Grateful not to be dead (ouch). Still trying to post more photos. Can’t.
But - it just started raining. Whoopee!🌧️🌧️🌧️

Sylvia, try being dorky like I am and use a desktop. Seriously. My biggest problem, so far, is the occasional post disappearing. I'm sorry those last photos wouldn't post. So much for the cutting edge app. Hope you get some needed rain--or maybe, you don't need it. Things seem to have changed in California on the rain front, for a while at least. Diane

I keep reminding myself houzz is free and you get what you pay for. It's something to be grateful for that we have been able to meet here, even if it doesn't always work.

Berry, I agree, and I've said to myself I would pay a reasonable membership fee to have a good rose forum. And it would save me from the "Social Platforms" which, old fogey that I am, I refuse to participate in. Diane

Oh, Sylvia, happy belated birthday. I had a good day, too. I love your name. My favorite cousin was a Sylvia, and she was so special. Diane

Thanks again! I too would pay for a better platform.

Sylvia, the Love Song is very beautiful

I use the Houzz App. I think that some of the features are different when you use the app, but I never have trouble with logging in. I do have trouble with some of my posts just failing to post sometimes and vanishing into cyberspace, though. Rather frustrating sometimes.

Sylvia, I like your Life of the Party rose. It’s one I have considered quite often but never got it. I don’t have room for every rose I want, somehow.

Here’s one that’s not often talked about, but I’m really liking. Schon Ingeborg. It bloomed a long time in spring and half of the summer and then took a break from blooming and grew a hug plant. I cut it back by about a third and it promptly grew out again with a few buds for the fall. This one opened today and it smells as pretty as it looks.

Judi, shoene Ingeborg is beautiful indeed!
I can’t say enough good things about Life of the Party. Prolific, healthy, fragrant, never boring, and a wonderful greeting at the front door. Shrugs off triple digits.

That’s good to hear! I just might have to try Life of the Party next year, Sylvia.

Here are a few more November beauties from my garden. The first photo is just an armful of blooms I brought it and laid on my island to arrange. They looked so pretty just laying there un-arranged, I had to capture it. Next is Cathedral Bells, one of my favorite for scent… can’t get enough of that smell. Claire Austin is much better in the cooler weather than in the triple digit temps we had earlier. Young Lycidas is a rose that keeps slowly improving and in time may become truly beautiful . The blooms already are stunning and smell so good.

Hmm, it seems today I can access more photos. Blush pink and pointed petals, the mini or should I say maxiflora, Hello Sunshine. Bushy it’s not, but it is at least 5.5’ high. I think its spindliness may have to do with its getting only morning sun,and under an overhang at that.
The striped climber is the unstoppable Flamingo Dancer, from Burling. A late bloomer in the spring, she makes up for it by putting forth flowers nonstop all the hot summer long.
White bud unfolding, Moonstone. I swore I’d shovel prune the two I have two years ago, but now … it’s all because they’re getting more water. Unspeakable loveliness.

We had several hours of rain yesterday, so I’m still expecting great things!

I’m as dazzled by the clean foliage as I am by the flowers themselves. No chili thrips this year!!

Exquisite, Sylvia. I can see why you're dazzled by the foliage of these roses. I love the leaves on Hello Sunshine almost as much as the lovely bloom's petals. And same for the delicate looking Moonstone. What a perfect bloom center this rose has. Diane
