You have two small rooms right next to one another? If so, can you take down the wall between them.

Long time experienced DIY here - my first thoughts are:

1. Pick your paint color for the built ins and trim (plan to use the same color through out the house as you go!) Good quality paint would be STIX primer and Benjamin Moore's Scuff X in Satin (or Semi if you prefer). VET your painter's!!!

2. I would NOT white wash your brick - to me, it is classic!

3. You could remove the mantel you have and replace it lower by building one that covers the 1 or 2 top brick extensions. Let 1 or 2 of the bottom brick extensions act as "corbels". Paint it white to match the built-ins. (Look up and follow building codes for clearances if this is a wood burning fireplace.)

3. I don't know if you can mount a tv over a wood burning fireplace, but IF it is allowed - get a mount that lets you pull the tv out, down and turn to whereever you need it to be.

4. "Frame" the tv with something that closes over it when not in use. My favorite idea is a folding shutter type frame that holds family pictures. (Search on Pinterest.)

5. Remove the fireplace doors and replace with black ones. (Or remove the current ones and paint with Rustoleum High Heat spary paint.)

Can you draw a floorplan with dimensions of the room. Include all the doors and windows.

IMO lose the shelving on either side to be left with only low cabinets . Wall mount the TV on an articulating arm above one cabinet on the side and hang a nice piece of art above the other cabinet , done.A lot less money and IMO a much better choice . I now see the pic of the whole room and I have no idea why the TV cannot go between the windows

There's nothing wrong with the size of your room. The TV should be positioned between the windows IMO.

Lol! Agreed- it was our old furniture from our previous house and will eventually go in the basement once we figure out the furniture needed. You think it’s okay to close off the other room with the couch?
