Living room help

I need help figuring out if I can add a table behind my couch with lamps or add lighting in the corner behind our couch to warm up the space. We often walk behind the couch so have to consider that. We have a big open area between the kitchen and living room and no clue what to do with it. Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

One more pic please. Need view from between couch & blue cabinet with lamp facing the expanse of wood flooring between black cabinet & blue cabinet in first pic. And, is that a walkway to another room behind the couch & facing mirror or is that a hallway behind the wall in second pic? Is that where you’re asking about adding lighting? If yes, my first impression is that a floor lamp would interfere with mirror on wall

Thanks! Yes, the corner by the mirror is where I was considering lighting or behind the couch. Here are 2 other photos to show different view points.

Thanks for extra pics. Your home has very pretty millwork / trim around the doors— a nice feature. The view reflected in mirror in 2nd pic added confuses me. In original pic posted it shows the french doors which I see on other side of room. In new pic it appears to be a dining room - is that what’s through the doorway across from black chest? I was guessing that’s foyer / entry bc of the pink jacket hanging on wall in 1st additional pic. What’s that area? If entry, the wall black chest is on is view from entry, yes? Either way, I think a much larger art above black chest would work - visually fill the space too. Maybe a place for the mirror? Swap art & mirror?

The other question is about access to the room behind couch - what’s the actual space between wall & couch & entry to other room & couch? In pics it looks like a very tight squish / squeeze to get around the couch. No lamp will fit. What I wonder is this - can couch be moved towards french doors - at least half of the open rug space that’s open. Move the blue cabinet either out of room or behind couch - leave the lamp on it for a reading lamp for that space on couch. That chest looks about same height as couch. What this move would accomplish is opening up the walkway behind couch & the other room, not block the walkway into TV room & out the french doors & fill in the empty look of the area behind couch.

That’s 3 things - larger art / something over black chest, move couch & move blue cabinet. Questions are what’s in that room across from black cabinet & what’s actual current space behind the 2 sides of couch back? My suggestions are made without having that info which might affect usefulness.

Thank you both. Great recommendations! KW PNW Z8- to the right of the blue chest is an eat in area. To the left of the blue chest is a screened porch. Hope that helps you visualize it better- Very open first floor. I really appreciate the feedback!

I'm not a pro so maybe I'm out to lunch, but what's bothering me is the back of your sofa with the little bit of rug showing. This looks unfinished to me for some reason, see your first picture. I'm wondering if you pull the sofa back to just off the edge of the rug, would it look better, that way you see floor then sofa, not floor, a bit of rug, then sofa. Love the rest of your home, it is lovely, well done you have a good eye.

@jcspringer Oh - so the dining area the mirror reflects in 2nd set of pics is through the french doors & out to screened porch! Neat. As well as dining area in room across from black chest is eating area. @doods note about the rug position is something I agree with. Don’t know if there’s room to pull sofa back to cover rug (walkway around corner issue) but the rug could certainly be pulled towards FP at the other end of room & accomplish what she’s explaining - not having the edge of rug showing there.. I’m still curious about the spacing…..? @BeverlyFLADeziner art suggestion - I agree with that too.

I will definitely look at the rug. I can never get the rug rule right ...how many feet on/off, so hard for me. But I will look at moving it forward. Many thanks!
