I can only make a suggestion about the shelving. Open shelving is an intresting idea, however, it's mainly for neat freaks and dust!!! If you just want it for decorative purposes, that's fine. If you need storage, you might want to seriously consider closed storage. I like your first photo, but moving your desk to the middle of the room so that you have maybe three feet between the credenza and the desk so that your chair can move freely. I am suspecting that painting a single wall an accent color will make the room feel choppier and smaller, so I would go all four walls with a color you love. Layout: Float your desk to face the window, helpful to light your face a bit for Zoom meetings. Then place your file cabinet across the back wall as below with shelves entirely across the back. Hope this layout works because walking through the door right now means you bump right into the file cabinet, making the room feel crowded.

Decor: Those curtains are dragging down the whole room. If you need privacy screening at night, get bamboo roman shades. I like how these are mounted above window to give a sense of height.

Get a bright, patterned rug for the floor and an attractive art work for the wall that faces the window.

For me to even begin to guess I need info. My husband and I both have offices with very different needs so what do you needd form the space for your business? I am a designer I need ahuge desk to alyout sample . I do not use CAD but have a drafting table , a stack of large paper a tub full of pencils all sharp. A file cabinetand one computer . My Husnand is legally blind but still does IT stuff he hase 3 momtiors and a machine to enlarge things on paper he needs to read . No files needed all on computer. So what do you need.

I encourage you to paint the entire room rather than just the accent wall. I think it would create a lovely space. I’d place the console under the window, and relocate the four shelves behind the chair.

Is there enough room to rotate the desk 90 degrees so that it is centered under the window, against the wall? You would sit facing the entrance. Then move the plant betw desk and closet, so that desk doesn’t look so massive. I think your open shelves above the credenza will work fine— yes, they’ll need to be dusted but you won’t have the problem of grease splatters like you would in a kitchen. Is it an option to remove the closet? It’s such a small room, and without it you could center the credenza on its wall and move chair to corner where closet is, with a nice floor lamp for reading. I agree with other posters about painting the entire room (and ceiling, if you’re brave!) in your accent color. My husband’s den is a similar size— a bit smaller, no window— and we considered different paint options. (We were working with a decorator who had a fixation on using contrasting color schemes everywhere!) So glad we went with one overall color. Note that he has a large MCM desk— too big to float or place perpendicular to wall.

Paint entire room the same color for a cozy home office vibe. Place desk next. Float desk to face door only if you can hide where you plug power cords and cables into wall outlet and won’t trip on them. Replace drapes with inside mount shade in Chintz or pinstripe twill fabric or a woven shade. After you place the desk you will see whether the shelves fit best on wall facing the door or perpendicular to door. Consider placing the plant on a stand to add height in the room.

We might suggest floating the desk in the center of the space and then placing the credenza behind the desk. This will allow you to have a professional looking space. Maybe take a moment to look at various office designs to aid you more with your current dilemma.
