I tried emailing KR directly from their website but never received any replies. It was just a question not an order but still...

I took the risk (after reading your comments) and ordered 2 MoonStone roses from Kate Roses 2 weeks ago. You get to choose the shipment date when you order on their website. I chose the earliest available ship date.

I emailed them twice requesting an ETA on my shipment and have not received any response yet. I’m a little worried now that they are not a real company too. If I receive my order, I’ll let you all know.

I've ordered quite a few roses from various Etsy sellers. Most of them now either have their own websites like Kate or they sell both ways. You usually get better deals on their own websites. I have not ordered from Kate. Some of the others are much better, and less expensive. Her shipping charges are too high also, unless you order $150 worth, which basically means 3 roses. My favorite source for most of these beautiful roses is Springland Flowers. Their prices are better, the plants are all own root, and the size is good and sent in a one gal pot. Free shipping on $99, which in most cases would be 2 plants. Altho they do have several that are under $50. https://springlandflowers.com/collections/all

I wanted to let everyone know I finally received my 2 Japanese Moonstone roses from Kate Roses after filing a dispute with my credit card provider. Within a week of calling my credit card company I received a response from Kate Roses and they told me they would ship my roses within 1 week (which they did). I’m hoping I received what I ordered.

After that ordeal, I decided to order 2 more Japanese roses from a Texas provider, GCM Ranch, it was a much more pleasant experience and I from the time I placed the order to when I received it, the company set the right expectations and sent my 2 roses before the time estimated at time of purchase. I ordered a Hiori “sugar” rose and an orange wedding rose. They arrived in great condition, no leaves, nicely packaged. I can’t wait to watch them grow in my zone 10A in California.

Such a lovely picture...that color is so sweet! It's so good to order through a credit card...you have recourse if something goes sideways. I'm glad it worked out and I hope they're sending you what you want. :)

I traded for a Blue Moon Stone two years ago. Last year I was happy with this bloom:

The plant has not been overly vigorous but seems pretty healthy and made it through the winter ok. However, this spring, in fact right now, it has white blooms with the faintest hint of lavender in the center of one. Will see if they darken any.

I don't have the money to try a lot of these interesting roses and it suits me to wait and see how the plants do for other people and to see how these nurseries do as well.

Erasmus - that is a really pretty bloom. Love that color! Why didn't you like Blue Moon Stone? I've got that one as a bare root this year.

Rosecanadian, I didn't say I don't like it. I really liked the blooms last year but this year they're white! Hardly any color at all! I hoped for more color not less. But I do know rose color can really vary a lot from year to year so I am not throwing in the towel on Blue Moon Stone and anyway the form of the white blooms is very pretty. Lack of vigor concerns me more but still it is early to judge.

I have raised seedlings from various "sad blue" class of genetics that Blue Moonstone quite obviously descends from.

What I can tell you is that the weather during bud formation seems to have a large impact on bloom color. Season in general seems to impact their colors. What I am trying to say is that this class of colors is different than typical mauve roses, and they are highly variable in their expression. I hope that helps.

Thanks, Jadae. Weather does seem to influence color. What do you mean by " sad blue" genetics? Nice color, pitiful plant? I am not sure yet it's pitiful. Will see what it does this summer.

I don't know what that is. I do want to add that my Blue Moon Stone's blooms did show some lavender after all. But the blooms were pretty small. The plant is still in a gallon pot...it just doesn't seem to need a bigger one yet...it is not very vigorous it seems. Could be that the whole thing would do better in the ground where it might get better nutrients.

Just recently

They are pretty! Mine were in a 1 gallon pot and I planted them in the grown after they arrived and now have their first buds. I will share pictures as soon as they open.

NorCal my plant identification app says it’s Rattlesnake Master, a weed. The photos they show look just like yours.

But maybe a carnation? I’ve never grown those but sure doesn’t look like dianthus that grows here (we call pinks).

Melissa , your app is probably correct ! I didn’t even think about using one . Last week I was at a nursery contemplating a carnation plant and I thought the stems looked similar . So I’m probably wrong !

Erasmus , my blue moonstone is a weak grower too. The stems are spindly and really it’s not a great specimen , fades quickly too . Mine also is in a pot ! Hopefully it shapes up soon . Most of my others have turned out really nice .

My first Blue Moonstone Rose blossoms!

The scent is AMAZING! Fruity, sweet, and very strong scent. I absolutely love this rose and it is now my favorite!!! Can’t wait for it to grow to its full size and produce lots of blooms.

Anyone else having issue with Grace Rose Farm? I paid dearly for 4 roses, then they promised a gift certificate and an extra rose since they could not deliver the original order and now they are saying they can only refund or replace! BS on my part, will never order from them again!

Here’s my Rainy Blue from Kate Roses, planted this spring.

Melissa , rainy blue is one of my favorites! The blooms last a lot longer than I expected. I hope it keeps doing well . I was worried it would be a dud bc last year the blooms fell apart quickly and didn’t bloom much but I have a lot this year . Unfortunately most is hidden by young lycidas and quicksilver.

NorCalSonoma, thanks for sharing your experience with Grace farms. I’ve been tempted to order from them but now I think I’ll hold off. Sorry they are not following through with their promises. If your ever in central California, we have a grower, Otto & Sons, where I buy many of my roses in person. They have a website in case you want to look for the rose you want before you drive down.

Sheila, I might have thrown some Rattle Snake Master seeds around my pollinator garden a year or so ago (seed hoarder confessions). I bought these on ebay from groco seeds. I really did not think one would come up! I was rattled when you figured out that's what it was :)

I am still looking for a Miss Willmott's ghost here because I had one grow here and I scattered seeds.

I have two outstanding orders from this place. They ignore my emails and have only once sent a partial order . I have over $750.00 outstanding with them. They should be shut down as they never return my money

It took me disputing the charge with my credit card to get this shipped. Any attempt to contact the company resulted in a computer-generated response. When I called I spoke with a woman with an accent who, based on the background noise, was in a boiler room. She assured me the rose had shipped. It had not. Finally arrived today and it is a single cane on a root ball the size of my fist. The roots are nothing but "hair" roots. For $70 you expect much better quality.

It is planted and we'll see if it grows. It will be a miracle at this point if it is even the variety I ordered.

Strongly suggest avoiding this company.

As a person that has worked for one of the most well known horticultural societies for years and who has been growing roses and teaching courses for decades, I would proceed with great caution here where "Kate Roses" are concerned. I speak only for myself and not for any society. This company is not well known in the rose-growing world (in fact, I've never heard of it until the last few months), and its website offers no clue as to where it is located (California is a big state...where in California?), and seems to offer plants with an overseas origin. Who propagates these? Are they patented? If so, who owns the patent? If they originate overseas, who imports these? What happens to my personal information and credit card number after ordering? Most family-owned plant farms proudly list the people that run the business and posts photos. The last time I looked, the company doesn't even appear on the Better Business Bureau website. Looks like they are going out of their way to remain anonymous and secretive. BIG RED FLAGS! I, for one, would never buy from this company unless it provides verifiable information.
