I would match it to the floor if you can. If it doesn't match exactly then it will look like a mistake but if you can match it, match it to the lighter of your planks.

I would not go with a rug with blue in it. You have a neutral palette, and you will limit yourself with the blue (unless you plan on putting that blue in other places as well). I like the color of the mantel in your fireplace vision. It's neutral and can go with most everything.

I would need to see the carpet before saying what is needed .I like browns and blues together but they need to be specific colors of both. So post a pic of the rug here in a comment DO NOT start another post.

Thanks for your thoughts! very helpful. Here is a photo of the carpet (in our previous house)…the grey/blue is just a fleck that is in the wool of the ivory carpet. I dont think the carpet will pull too much in blue tones. My thought was to continue the theme of rustic comtemporary through the house so as to match the outside architecture. Kind of a modern, mountain home vibe.

I like your vision picture with the vertical black ship lap. It is not trendy and aesthetically works with your room. Do you need the mantel to isolate the tv from the heat of a gas fireplace? If you are doing an electric fireplace that you don't use for heat then I would skip the mantel. The elements you've chosen look very nice together.

Those are gorgeous shelves, but what I thought was really cool on your website was the ornaments and the triangle sculpture. Can you give any kind of a ballpark range on cost on those?

I sure hope you did not do the shiplap. Can you post some pics now of what you have now just in a comment like before.

What would you say your design style is? The shiplap is really nice but there are a ton of different way you could update the fireplace in your space. You might consider looking at some options on here. Do you already have furniture for the space? If so can you link us to the furniture as well? We have completed the fireplace. I decided not to do shiplap and instead just painted the fireplace wall in SW Urbane Bronze. We also added a white oak mantle. I’m very happy with how it turned out. Thanks everyone for the input.
