vent hood/backsplash recommendations

This group was kind enough to help before and need advice. Remodeling my kitchen and decided to reskin korbels and fluted areas and replace dentil moulding with simpler type. Paint cabinets off white and Taj Mahal counters. I need advice on vent hood. The carpenters I talked to said they advice getting new one rather than trying to modify and suggested readymade from hoodsley company. Lots of choices but not sure which one My husband doesn’t want stainless. Also, rec on backsplash that would compliment Taj Mahal. Thank you in advance.

I second keeping the hood but removing the decorative pieces. And keeping the wood cabinets.

    Taj Mahal is so pretty!

I agree with the above comments re buying a new range hood; simplify and paint what you have, it’ll look nice. As to backsplash with TM counters, this will depend on what yours look like. We searched for a while and were able to find light and creamy slabs, on the warm side with light gray and tan veining. Much of today’s TM is very dark and moody, with even darker gray and green veining, so your backsplash will greatly depend on what you end up with. FWIW, with our lighter slabs (they contain both warm and cool hues) we chose Zellige tile in weathered white by Clé, which also contain warm and cool tones. (There are also colors that will work better with darker, grayer TM.) Good luck!

I wasn’t sure how to address the wood behind corbels. Another simpler corbel, wood trim ? I was hoping to cut that off and go even with rest, but too hard to do I’m told.

I meant even across like right below shelf and remove shelf

I usually hate involved, ornate cabinetry but yours is lovely, as are your countertops. If this were my kitchen, I would bring it all together with a dark (red?), single-color backsplash, perhaps paint behind glass. Way cheaper and more environmentally friendly than redoing cabinets and natural stone and would give a dramatic, sophisticated look (and save you the cost of a new hood).

I think they could remove the corbels and then use a thin piece of wood to cover the entire area that it came from. Maybe with a curved edge that would tie in with some of the other details. Or have a panel that mimics the one above the shelf

What will the reskinned corbels look like IMO the kitchen is too dated and not worth spending huge money on to "fix"It is going to cost huge $$$$$ to make this look more modern if that is the aim I ahve to agree with Melissa either love what it is or start saving for a whole new kitchen. I am not sure what you wanted from the changes you planned but to me this all works together and anything you change trying to make it something else will be a big mess.

The other thing you could do to update without huge expense would be to remove some of the upper cabinets, like the ones around your sink. Then continue the backsplash up to the crown. This image has a stone backsplash but you could use tile too.

I like your kitchen!!! I personally feel that your corbels are lovely, and more upscale rather than gaudy. I love that your cabinets go all the way to the ceiling, and that you don't have arched cabinet doors. And I love the detail of the arch above your sink and the paneled wall treatment behind it. And it looks like your kitchen marries well with the style of your house--based on the arched opening to the dining room. Honestly, your kitchen is beautiful and so rich looking. I think that when your kitchen becomes more worn with time and use, then you might consider remodeling, and then for sure include more drawer bases. I love a white kitchen, but your cabinetry has a lot of detailing (even after removing the corbels and fluting), which won't look good IMO in white.

I hope the Taz goes as well with your flooring like the current granite does. I don't think your current BS goes well with the other surfaces in your kitchen, and to me the BS seems like the most dated thing in your kitchen, so for a relatively inexpensive update, I think I would just change the BS to something plainer, but you gotta do what makes you happy.

"Plaster" (a drywall box): with a band of trim around the bottom.
