Daniel, that is too wield. I have grown many Aglaia odorata (in Chinese it is called Rice Orchid) and never is there one with onion smell. It has the best fragrance powerful but always pleasant. I have heard people having the scentless Aglaia odorata plant, though

Yeah, they sure do look alike. I've read that sometimes people report no fragrance. Mine definitely has one, but it's not pleasant. It sort of smells like mown wild onions. It's not very strong, but strong enough to smell throughout a room. This plant came from a shop on etsy called polsada. A Google search shows another species, called Aglaia duperreana, that looks just like odorata. I wonder if I inadvertently ended up with the wrong species, or some cultivar with an unpleasant aroma. I think I might have to to try again with a plant from a different seller. I tried changing growing conditions around, by altering light exposure, temperature, and humidity, but it's consistently oniony.

I never heard of Aglaia duperreana. It could be a possibility. Gardino nursery now carries Aglaia odorata, $20 for a 4” plant. The price has gone up a little since I bought it 2 years ago. I am happy with my plant and the scent definitely is true

I bought another aglaia odorata from a different vendor, and it smells exactly the same! Nothing whatsoever from a distance, mildly unpleasant up close
