How about a picture of your actual backyard?

Yes that would be nice . A propane fire pit allows a bit of freedom no roasting hot dogs though . I think in a small space maybe all concrete or slabs and then some nice pots filled with color would be bettr tan the mix. I do love my artifical grass we have had it now for 2 yrs on all our low deckand around the pool is is awesome looks real feels nice on bare feet and has eliminated the need to redo the deck every year. Then a nice coffee table fire

So you think it may be better to just do all of one vs splitting it up into concrete and artificial turf ?

We roast hot dogs an s’mores on our propane fire pit. Why not?

With that size yard, I'm not sure how well an open fire pit will work. It is recommended that one allow a minimum of 6 feet clearance around the pit........ That takes up approx. 175 square feet of your 337 square foot backyard. Not much space left over for other activities or even any plantings.

A small tabletop or smokeless fire pit might work.

I think you need to evaluate how often the fire pit will be used compared to other outdoor activities that you might use more frequently. Half the available real estate devoted to an infrequently used fire pit is a lot to give up.....

Is there a way to pop a natural gas line out of the wall of the house? I did that from the laundry room. Then I put 2 quick connect gas lines in the outdoor slab so I can move things around when I want to.

I was going to redo the backyard and was going to hide a gas line below the concrete/artificial turf. If you do that, then how would you run the gas line? the gas line would be exposed and would be a tripping hazard.

Just to clarify, I was going to do a gas smokeless firepit not wood.

I put two locations and it was well planned so having to run a hose across a pathway wasn't an issue. I also put a jack on the house. Most big propane fire pits I was looking at also had a hose to a hidden propane tank. Not having to worry about propane is the only way to go.

Check with whatever regulators govern this issue in your municipality. Once again, I doubt you have sufficient space to accommodate even a smokeless pit. And all gas lines must be buried!!

There is a small back yard behind our town house, maybe 22 by 15. It has a fish pond with waterfall that was there when we bought the place. It recently had to be redone when it developed a leak. We really missed the water drowning out the urban noise. You might consider some sort of fountain for the sound of falling water.

The things we value most are a stone patio with gas barbecue and dinner table for entertaining. The rest of the space has a small tree and various plantings.

What is the appeal of concrete and fake grass? How much do you think you will use the firepit? A number of gardening magazines have issues for small spaces that might give you inspiration.

    Here are a few ideas:

As stated previously, unless a very small and fully portable fire pit, most municipalities require that it be placed a minimum of 10 ft away from any structure and 20-25 feet is highly recommended. "Place your fire pit at a safe distance (10-25 feet) from any flammable structures or surfaces. This includes your house, trees, shed, vehicle, neighbors' property, and wood deck, among other things. Keep your fire pit away from overhanging branches. A 21-foot clearance is standard for most municipalities."

At the very least, you are seriously stretching the limits of a 25' x 13.5'backard.

do you need privacy from tall landscape? do you have a view out the window? what is the artificial grass FOR? If its for a dog, you may have to spray it down to keep the smell down.
