Keep in mind that any bedrooms will have to have direct egress in case of a fire. If you can have an exterior door from the bedroom that will take care of the issue. If not, you will have to have a window of a certain size that has a sill height of a certain height. If the grade is high against the walls of the bedroom you will have to install a window well with a latter that will allow escape from the bedroom to an open area of ground.

sreveetheridge has good points. Also consider the soil type and how this egress well will work with current or planned landscape, are you downhill from neighboring property, sand or clay soil, room outside for the egrees and well covering? We have installed egress in 2 homes. Both properties were flat, and we utilized the existing small basement window as a start for the 4’ x 4’ egress. We went large so a firefighter with equipment could get through! The most recent property is all sand and our contractor and help dug it out by hand, no heavy equipment. Because of sand we went with the solid piece insert with integrated steps.

Wanted to add I like the current flow with kitchen where it is. Having a kitchen would warrant a doorway being close by (think burnt microwave popcorn) 😏
