Yes, a softer solid in the LR would be better. That diamond jute pattern does not seem to have the colors of the FR room rug.

If you'll be able to see the extent of both rugs at the same time, only you can decide if that visual will be balanced or not. The coloring is similar. They are two different rooms, I get it, and should be able to strike a balance that your eyes will be pleased with.

My snippets of pics don’t show everything- the pops of rust on LR sofa tie into the warmer browns in the adjacent FR- a wicker chair and cognac leather couch. Otherwise the predominant colors are charcoal, grey, beige. The room is seldom used except for parties- we hang out mostly in FR- hence pillows aren’t an issue. I haven’t received the rugs yet ( I ordered two)- they’re Jute blends and reviews say they’re soft to feet. We’ll see.

It's nice to see the doors opened - but I still think the pattern for the LR is too strong and a softer solid would be better. It offers better flow between the two rooms - IMO.

I think the scale of the diamonds and intensity of the grey color will decide if they look good together. My FR rug has a bold smaller curvy pattern so I didn’t think it would fight with a larger geometric design mirroring the same colors. The rugs are expected to arrive next week so I’ll make a decision after reviewing them in person.

Not so much, IMO. One is very graphic/modern and the other is pretty traditional. I think you have to decide what look you're going for.

IMO perfectly fine to mix traditional/ oriental rugs with contemporary ones if they have color as cohesive element. Also fine to mix more contemporary furniture with antiques ( we have , for instance, an antique dining table and modern chairs). I’m not a pro, but don’t believe every element in a home needs to be in the same style

Lyn, the photos of the area rugs are Photoshopped ( as stated in original post). I haven’t even purchased the actual rug yet, but glad that “ see in my room “ feature actually works.

I think they work together and agree that they are Transitional don't see modern...
