Gold splash euonymous

I'm considering gold splash euonymous for the home of a relative in 6b Ohio. I've never grown this plant myself, but the small size and gold-green evergreen color I think would be perfect in the spot I want to put them. That is, if they look and behave like the pictures lol and advertised size of 18"-2' tall and wide.

I'm concerned because I'm reading euonymous can be more like groundcover or climbing vine, achieving the shrub form only through regular pruning. I'd be around to visit maybe a few times a year to do this, but my relatives would not be able to do it themselves. I have read that gold splash is more inclined to take the shrub form on its own than other varieties - is this true?

I'm also concerned because I've read euonymous can be invasive. But proven winners claims that this variety is not. Also wondering if that is true.

I have a Gold Splash which I must have planted, oh, at least 20 years ago (in the wrong spot lol but it's still there!) I LOVE the colors of this plant. Mine, however, grows almost like a groundcover, very flat and long and spreading, not even very mounding. It was planted next to my front brick steps, and when it hit them it grew up the side of the brick. I have never pruned or shaped it (despite being my front steps, it's rather neglected as we always use another entrance) and perhaps if I did prune or shape it would be a more pleasing form. Not that the current form is unpleasant, but it has just never really been a "shrub", or at least the form that I think of as shrub-form. It does have some reversion but I usually just cut that out.

I don't have a major deer problem for the most part, but I do have deer - just saw one about 25 feet away from the front door two days ago - but the Gold Splash has never been touched, perhaps because it is so close to the house?

If you have deer it will not be invasive..

NEVER going to be invasive in Zone 6 Ohio, but OMG, DEER DO LOVE THEM TO DEATH! They will come to you though! I LOVE Euonymus "gold splash", can only grow it in a fenced off deck or in the HOUSE! No deer? Where are you?! I am near the island known as Manhattan.

Thanks 41North! Sounds like I made a good pick then? Will it be a shrub or will it take some effort to make it a shrub?

Definitely no deer where they live, so they're safe in that regard. And I am so relieved it won't be invasive!

Prune them, they are not the fastest growing shrubs. I have other shrubs that are much more aggressive and out of control (Persian, Cherry Laurel, Photinia "Red tip"). I prefer the Euonymous, but nature requires that I plant something with cyanid to discourage the deer

They can be pruned to any shape. Mostly they take on a spreading, mounding form. They will ground-layer. Easy to propagate. Tolerant of sun and shade.

They will send up long shoots, which climb into other shrubs (or masonry) quickly, if they are close by them. They look pretty good year-round here in northern VA, but my goodness, this a favorite of the deer (most any euonymus is). If you plant it, they will come. Unless you are fenced in.
