,The name Heat Pump is misleading, heat pumps for comfort also cool. There are also heat pumps that heat water. You can buy mini splits that (A) Cool only (B) Heat and cool with heat source being resistance heat strips (C) Heat pump with compressor supplying both heat and cool.

All mini splits can be used in any room or area you prefer.

Thank you. There is currently a rebate available that will cover most of the cost of a heat pump but I’m not sure if that is what I can use for that room. Best thing is probably to reach out to a hvac company.

Mini-split heat pumps are our go-to for conditioning bonus rooms over garages. We've had great results with Mitsubishi's units.
