Sorry, but from the photos you provided, I would be very concerned about a pervasive mold problem and would investigate that before making plans to spend money elsewhere. Unless the partial black grout in the shower has another explanation.

There a small walk in closet. Yea I’m worried about the mold too the prior owners didn’t fix the grout problems. The entire shower needs to come out and get redone.

This looks like more than 15 K to me.

I do think keeping the layout is smart so that you don’t have to redo plumbing and electrical.

How attached are you to the cupboard at the end of the vanity? If storage can be found elsewhere, the removal of this would open up the space. As the shower is needing to be re done, a fully glass unit will open up how the room looks. Before doing anything, search for some inspiration ideas, it doesn’t need to reflect your layout - save pics of what you like, even if it is just one element, to give you a starting point.

It could be a really nice update but needs a total gut to start. Our room is similar size and did the same, paying closer to $30K. You may want to bump up your estimate so doesn't come as a shock.

All of this is meaningless until you draw the bathroom, measure that bathroom, and provide the feet and inches for the bath as it exists right now.

That means every single wall, entry doorway, walk in closet doorway , window, all of it and every single inch.

Is this a DIY job or will you be hiring contractors? If you are hiring, I'd start by getting a few quotes for demo and basic install. $15k doesn't sound to me like it will cover your labor and materials. (But, perhaps it depends on where in the country you live.) If this is over budget can you at least redo the shower now before the mold penetrates and takes over inside your walls?

I can understand your desire to start over. There's quite a clash of quality and styles in that room.

The cabinetry appears quite nice and the rest not so much. Perhaps if the costs won't cover it you could just focus on the tub/shower side of your room? You need prices. Start with the shower, it needs to be safe and functional. I know they are all the rage but a shower/tub combo will give you a larger shower over all. If there's a tub in a common bathroom in your home I might forget the tub and use the footage for a larger shower.

Even if you hope to DIY please get a professional opinion on the shower. It may be a shadow, but the photo looks like mold is beginning to come through the wall above the toilet paper holder. You may have a bigger hidden problem than just the shower and it would be best to find that out before you allocate your budget. Good luck!

No bath this size accommodates a free standing tub. It's already choked in the photo: ) and the bath is one inch less in width, than 8'past the tub area.

The budget is restricted, and major plumbing changes will only worsen that, even@ 25K.
