Awkward corner conversation area

Originally it had been used as den with a huge secret door bookcase dividing it from the kitchen and had a door to the hallway... as well as a door to the utility walkway. That walkway has a 9 foot tall wall that runs the length and it just 43 inches away from the house.

I put double doors there because I intend on a living wall of shade loving plants and to keep the door open as a protect catio area.

The original concept was to turn this area into combo room with banquette. I posted the idea here 2 years ago. The idea isn't all that crazy, there is room for it.

https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6198411/can-a-dining-banquette-also-be-a-comfortable-sofa-for-tv-viewing#n=9

I'm finally at the stage where I need to execute a plan and perhaps I need to pare it down to just two upholstered swivel chairs and on the opposite wall, a couple X benches under a console that can be pulled up. I'd still like to find a table that can adjust for dining/game playing... or just stay low for cocktails. I like a club atmosphere. Maybe a mirrored or dark wall or mural wallpaper??

Any suggestions would be welcome!

I love Thayer Coggin Roxy chairs, swivel, tilt, super comfy and compact. I have two and guests never want to give them up. Scroll down in the link for lots of Roxy options.

I love the idea of a living wall, I did one in a similar situation once. Don't forget the lighting! How many people to you anticipate using the room at the same time? I like the idea of a table that with an adjustable height. And I hope you scratch the banquette, it will look awesome, but doesn't look very loungy. If four people might be using the room, make the chairs under the console as comfortable as possible, maybe with a small back to them. Do you have a pics of the secret door bookcase?

Those Roxy chairs are exactly the style I've been looking at. I'm very tall... I think I'll need to bring my 5 foot tall friend next time to see if she can be comfortable in one of the chairs. One of my requirements is that nothing can get underneath it and Roomba can fully clean around it so I like the round base of those.

I want a living wall somewhere and right there it would be almost as if it's inside. I thought Redfin would keep the listing photos forever and I see the moving bookcase pic has disappeared. As for a comfortable banquette. My one thought was that I could have something built that is a cross between a sofa and a banquette, one that would be comfortable to lounge and then just provide big pillows to bolster your back when it's used for dining. I'd like to be able to accommodate 5 people... any more and we'd have to move outdoors to the dining table out there, in a covered patio (with fireplace and heated cement).

Do you have an informal eating table? A round saarinen table would look great there.

Here are my plants. I iike seeing staggered heights and lots of green. A iving wall would be neat too, but ots of plants of varying heights and some pretty colorful framed pictures above would look great too.

Escuse the dog toys! I see they are getting out of hand.

This looks exactly like my friends home in Malibu. Her husband was a midcentury furniture dealer in Palm springs. I love the staggered heights! Photoshop's new AI for quick touchups!

Here's his succulent collection. You can see their saarinen table over to the left. Weirdly similar, no?

I'm adding a peninsula with stools for informal eating. This room used to be a dining table and chairs with console. I just rarely used it. You can see it here over to the left. I'm trying to trick myself into utilizing every inch of the place this time around. A flexible lounge-y, moody bar area for drinks/appetizers/dinner I think will lure me over there. I want it to be a surprise space... like unexpected once my guests come around the corner.

Oh please tell me that adorable cat is still with us.

Upholstered walls made a friend's similar cozy conversation nook a very inviting atmospheric space. Acoustics often play second fiddle to our homes' visuals and if you love an uncluttered look that can mean hard surfaces. Hers was batting, then fabric stapled to the walls and edges finished with welting. More traditional than your home and unless you're a pro used to handling that much fabric (they owned a drapery room) I wouldn't recommend that method but there's lots of modern versions of upholstered walls especially if you turn to acoustic wall panels. Not suggesting you go full Elvis at Graceland, although that room does have great acoustics (I used to live in Memphis, been there several times. I highly recommend everyone visit this time capsule, Elvis fan or not). Hey look! there's your orange.

Your cactus/succulent collection is amazing! Great looking home! I think a nook to have a cup of coffee or tea, or sit with a friend, woud be great. The thayer coggin chairs look good. Also could check out dwr.

How would you do the plant wall? Is there a kit?

Thanks for picking up the toys! Looks much better!

That's my friends collection and home. I'm sure he paid up to $1000 for some of the rarer plants. I'm just now checking into how to do the plant wall. Apple Stores have a great system but I don't have a lot of space before fuller plants interfere with the doors opening.

I have a lot of art for the room with specialty lighting fixtures to light it... add to that a mini split sunk into the ceiling otherwise I'd love the fabric idea. Frankie is incredibly happy to be back into his old home after 2 years of fire renovation.
