Kitchen reveal Before/After

Wanted to share the nearly final result of our remodel (still working on decorating and refinishing chairs).

TLDR from other posts: I disliked the kitchen layout mainly fridge placement, lack of seating, and cabinets door functionally which required closing then in specific order. We like cooking. Have young kids (not gentle at all). Ended up remodeling due to kitchen being flooded by malfunctioned DW. House is not a forever home but unclear how long we stay.

While I did not take all the advice received, I used this forum a lot for how to approach things and design. We have been leaving with it for a few months now and I really think it works perfectly for our family

Nice job! So clean and bright. I love the different fun pops of color on the chairs. Your kids must love rope climbing. How fun is that!

May I ask what is the white/SS appliance sitting on the countertop between the sink and stove? I have never seen anything like that before.

Thermomix. We do not use it a lot but it was a wedding gift so had it for a few years

Haha yes kids love climbing /gymnastics. Also a good way to get their energy out in winter

Really well done! The new placement of the appliances is particularly nice; it must feel like a brand new space without that giant fridge looming over you.

If you have time to share info about your cabinet/backsplash and other choices, that would be great.

@ca929 sure. I tried to stay as much as I can within the insurance payoff and we were pretty sure our kids would vandalize any kitchen, so chose many budget-friendly options
1. Cabinets are Chinese stock cabinets from a local store which has been used by many flippers and renovators in the area for the past 7-8 years. They ended up 2.5 times as cheap as Lowe’s under 30% discount. Less sizes and options though
2. Quartz is from them as well. I really love Calacatta miragio duo but again way more expensive
3. Sink is bocci. Ordered both it and blanco and have not seen enough differnece to pay more. 27” https://www.lowes.com/pd/BOCCHI-Campino-Uno-Dual-Mount-27-in-Single-Bowl-Granite-Composite-Kitchen-Sink-in-Metallic-Black/5014076125
4. Facet and water faucet both Kraus https://www.amazon.com/Kraus-Touchless-Sensor-Pull-Down-Kitchen/dp/B0CL2T236D

1. Handles were a splurge

1. Backsplash (cray about it) https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ivy-Hill-Tile-Amagansett-Gin-White-4-in-x-4-in-Mixed-Finish-Ceramic-Wall-Tile-5-38-Sq-Ft-Case-EXT3RD101879/306804568
2. Floors - Valinge - Brushed Hardened Wood Flooring | Misty White Oak (Select Grade)

1. We have island supports I ordered online at two different places. Straight pieces and custom piece for a side overhang. I did not like first place but really would recommend countertopbracketsupport.com
Overhangs are 14” on long side and 15” on short.
Appliances:
Dw - Bosch 500
Hood - Hauslane 36”
Range - induction Samsung (pretty entry level)
Fridge - Forte 33 counter depth https://www.forteappliances.com/forte-f16sbs250ss.html we do grocery shop often and we kept our humongous fridge in the mudroom. We mostly use it for freezer and during parties it’s where pizzas and champagne bottles went.

I think all together for this part (we ran floors all over the main level so it added up) we were at $33k or so. I removed cabinets myself to donate, GC and found all subcontractors. (I would use a contractor but the guy we chose had a last minute issue and could not do it)

Thanks for all positive comments about chair colors. My spouse was not crazy about them. But I felt otherwise too monochromic. I since added a turquoise bread box and plan to eventually update microwave to a smaller one in retro style (we barely use it for some reheating as air fryer with oven function is way more convenient)
