I can't hear it because I'm hard of hearing and I don't have headphones right now but I can see a lot of smiles on her face. It looks like she enjoys having her opinion asked of her.

@erasmus_gw she does love having her opinions asked, but loves to state them whether asked for or not:) also she is generally full of smiles. she was blessed with an overly abundant happy soul, which is great seeing that she has gone through more in her almost 12 years(in march) than what she should have had to.

the short of it is that she doesnt like roses but wants to grow scooters and a giant sunflower

Oh, maybe you could get her some sunflower seeds. One of my nephews doesn't like roses much but I get the impression it's because he thinks some people are too crazy about roses and that they ignore the many other plants there are. He is all for lilies and toad lilies. On his recommendation I plan to try some toad lilies. Been looking at the little bags of them at Walmart for a few years. Maybe your daughter would like a little plot of her own to grow stuff.

Children's interests differ from those of their parents with saddening frequency. DD has adored all things mechanical since she was a toddler, while remaining largely indifferent to roses and gardening (her favorite rose is the dog rose); she just earned her engineering masters. However, due to a quarter century passed in the company of that crazy garden lady her mom, she actually notices plants and has a respectable knowledge of them, and has a healthy respect for the importance of the natural world. Parental input can enrich children's lives in ways they wouldn't necessarily seek out for themselves.

Definitely your daughter needs room to do the kind of gardening she wants to do, if any. And keep on sharing your passion with her, while listening to her on her passions, whatever they are. You'll both be the wealthier for it.

    P.S. Your daughter is beautiful.

O, I think it's totally healthy and normal that a kid's interests differ from those of their parents! actually, quite healthy-they NEED to rebel against their parents in order to grow up into their own individual selves. As a baby, my DS had an incredible natural talent for drawing (he probably still has it),but the "crazy garden lady" his mom is also an artist -actually I've been a painter way longer than I've been a gardener. But he's also really gifted scientifically (my dad was close to being a mathematical genius, and my son seems to have inherited that , though I sure as heck didn't). I'm really, really glad that he has chosen psychology as his field, being a science that deals with the "psyche" (soul), which is of course the realm of art. He'll definitely get a job and fit in with society much, much easier and better going along that path than anyone could with art. I think. Nevertheless, I do hope that someday he'll re-discover his talent for visual art. As a young teen-ager, he loved doing grafitti-style stuff, for example...

The sunflower seeds idea is GREAT! Best wishes to you and your daughter, Brandon.

I’m fine with my dsughter not liking roses. she wants to be a vet when she grows up and loves animals. yesterday we went to a reptile store and she began talking to a chameleon and it was all brightly colored and attrnyive to her while she wss talking to it. the chameleon went to dull colors when she walked away. she often talks to the animals whenever we are at a store/zoo, and never passes the opportunity to ask if she can pet someones dog.
