making a bold rug work and a kitchen update

I need help making my living room and kitchen flow together. I am trying to get away from the “farmhouse” style and want more of some color with some gold accents. I chose this bold pink rug but now I’m struggling to see how to make it all work. I was thinking of using gold accents… side tables, gallery wall with gold frames, gold fireplace screen. Things like that. I am also wanting to change up the fireplace. Should I go bold or keep it calm and neutral?

Then I need to make things flow nicely into the dining room and kitchen. I want to redo countertops, backsplash, and cabinets. I just don’t know what colors to go with. Eventually all appliances will be replaced. Get a new dining table and chairs and replace all of the light fixtures. I already have a few black and gold fixtures that I would like to use but I’m not so sure if I can make them work.

I will attach the two collages I have made. One is of the listing photos and after being painted. Most of everything has been removed from the counters now. The other one is of the new bold rug, fireplace, and current curtains. Along with 3 of the fixtures I already have. It’s kind of hard to tell but above the chair rail is a light silvery blue (there is light blue in the rug) and the bottom is a neutral cream with almost a grey look to it. I had my heart set on like a matte black and gold theme in the kitchen but if I can’t make that work then what can I do that will?

I think your taste in lighting is beautiful. I think the key to transitioning your home is to a step or two, then see it for a while, then add something, as if you go fast and hard you'll end up with something very bohemian which is not the vibe your lights suggest.

I love color but I'm a bit overwhelmed by the raspberry and teal rug. Because your place is open concept, your rug will define the whole space. I'm not sure I like how it works with your floor which is warmer. I'm such a green fan, I would be tempted to bring green in instead, it would go beautifully with the black and gold lighting. I'm not a pro, I'm sure they'll have better ideas other than only black furnishings, which would be dark.

Your kitchen will be a high budget item, they always are, you may want to get a good handle on what that expense will be first, then decide how far you want to go on changes in the rest of the house.

"redo the kitchen " can mean various things. From what is shown Id say the kitchen warrants a complete renovation. I would hold off w changing counters and gold embellishments in the existing space. The kitchen is quite removed from the living room so matching things perfectly isnt such an issue. Is the dining space w the small table and chairs the area between living and kitchen?? But there is another larger dining room it appears with the formal drapes.....

You cant do all of this in a heartbeat or a wave of a wand. with a growing family I guess being practical and budget minded is what comes to mind. I love the rug..Id keep it. Here are pictures.....you can bring in the seating furniture closer for conversation venues with a nice focal point now. Otherwise the Craigs list search for a dining table for the dining room..and use of rug under a table can work.. So there are options. Craigs list always has a lot of dining tables and chairs.

LIVING SPACES shown w focal areas featuring beautiful rugs/ furniture arranged " closer in" details like coffee tables/ accent pieces etc. Looks to me Id search for the table/chairs you apparently need for eating and a nice worn leather or shabby chic ottomon/ footstool like this for your growing kiddo to grab and so on. Bring your upholstered pieces in for a better seating/conversation area. If you want a new kitchen.....I would measure right now and price out Ikea cabinets for budgetary reasons.....go through their displays a few times...Ikea is a good spot to roam around w a child.

I actually love your rug! Mine is in similar colors, so that’s probably why, lol. Also have open concept and actually have turquoise kitchen cabinets which certainly isn’t for everyone. Black tile fireplace, black accents on dining set and counter stools. Gold toned light fixtures and gold/ glass tv stand. Pulled the raspberry in with pillows, throws and kitchen runner/ dining room rug. Maybe pics will help 😊
