Art doesn't always have to be centered on a wall. You have a large open space and need to make sure that your items keep up with the scale of the architecture or they might look lost in the space.

I plan to raise the art 3” and add a bench or console. Should I put a console behind the sofa AND put a bench under the artwork or is that overkill?

You might want to create a pseudo foyer by having a console table on the living room side, and small bench or chairs on the other.

Or just a console table along the wall. with a chair beside.

Either way, I would have suggested the art goes up last, as it should relate to the other things in the room.

Great ideas, thank you…love the console and bench especially since the bare back of the sofa bothers me a bit.

Instead of your current direction, my suggestion would be that you select a long simple panel end console for the entry, combined with a long bench that slides under the console when needed. You have a stellar foyer and you're approaching it with discount store solutions. Some photos are posted below so you can visualize what your space could be.

Because of the scale of your foyer, the art you select should be vertical, not horizontal. You may require additional lights on the console, either sconces or buffet lamps.

I see no need for the console behind the sofa, and your etegere is too short but too wide for that wall in the room.

Suggestions on something I can put on the top shelf of the eterget to help balance it out? I love it and would hate to get rid of it.

If that’s “word art” on the right etagere , I would remove it.

In terms of whether there is room for both, it looks to me like you have lots of space available.

Maybe look around your house and see if you pieces of furniture that you can bring in just to try out for size. Sort of as a mockup

I’m not sure! But I think it would be nice if you did have some sort of console table, that whatever was on the other side, didn’t mirror the shape too much. So maybe two round stools. Or one chair. But I tend to be more of a figure-it-out-as-I-go-along kind of decorator!

The pros here all recommend planning everything before you do anything at all, but that’s never been how I’ve done stuff myself.

Hmm that might be to much against that wall because then I’d have to swerve around an eterget once I get close to the staircase.

Since you love the etegeres, is it possible to raise them somehow? Seeing the unit Beverly posted with and without a base cabinet makes me wonder if some kind of custom cabinet could be built to raise them. Don't make it look DIY, but is there something you could do to raise them? Maybe just a simple console base could be built. That doesn't solve the width proportion but if you love something, you love it.

Is there a rug in the living room area? You want the entryway rug to complement the one in the adjacent space.

Using a table, chairs and lamps in the entryway will make a huge difference in making your house feel welcoming. Upholstered chairs or ottomans will add warmth. Firs figure out the size of the console, then move to the other items.

I’d start with the wall decision as it will drive the rug’s style and placement. What would you prefer: bench, lamp/a surface, etc.

If you can move your art to say the dining room, you now have a blank slate and I’d suggest large scale for a lovely first impression and well proportioned space.

Look to complement the living room’s style and then when choosing a rug, it will work with both spaces. After wall is finished (tape out rug sizes and locations, consider your needs at entrance and if you want an open or cozy feel. Skip a console table behind couch…less is more.

Look on line for help, save your favourites and soon you’ll notice a look you are leaning towards.

Thoughts? I don’t know how low to drop the pendents because as you can see I have a window but that seems too high to hang them…

Sorry those three rugs don’t go together at all. Pendants don’t work either. Leave the high hats alone. Once you fiqure out the hall furniture you can add a table lamp or 2, maybe sconces.

I dont particularly like this room, but they’ve done a good job creating an entryway where there wasnt one.

Yep, looking into other patterns from the same collection—thank you :) The piano will be pushed back into the corner at an angle. The dining room is too long, we are looking into a square 60” table to replace it once I get these other dilemmas in order ;)

For what it's worth, I'd consider having a welcome mat running across the doorway, separate from whether or not you add a runner to the hallway.

I would paint the wall the door sits on to distinguish it as the entry way
