You'll probably have a low console under the TV--so if you need something for that spot try a chest or bureau with a lamp and art.

Work on configuring the area rugs and seating before deciding on placement of consoles, art, etc.

For the fireplace area, 2 matching chairs facing each other or the fp.

You could do two different chairs-

-an easy chair/ottoman or reclinder on the diagonal in the corner. A floor lamp behind or next to it. Books and magazines on the shelves for reading.

-for in front of the hearth a swivel chair to face any direction.

Use painter's tape to lay out furniture and rugs so you know exactly what size you need.

We have a larger extended family so if we are all together, 14. I love the idea about the two different chairs, I would have never thought about that! Any recommendations for a couch? I was looking at the couches that are sectionals and have the chaise attachments at both sides to create the “u” shape you recommended above.

I've heard on Houzz from pros -I'm not- that a pair of sofas seats more people than a sectional and it makes sense. So two sofas that seat 4 plus two side chairs or loveseat in LR and two in FP nook, plus an upholstered bench between the windows seats 14.

Ottomans can be used for spare seating without taking up additional space and could replace a chair. They come in all sizes and the large ones can replace a coffee table...use trays for drinks. If you have comfy dining chairs, that's spare seating...lots of options.

We have a thick rug/carpet and I have sat/lounged on the floor when we have run out of seating. Get plenty of throws/ throw pillows.
