Rectangular for sure. But I think you need something with some contrast, not white/clear glass. Maybe something with a black frame to pick up on the stair rails? I like Hubbardton Forge lighting..

I would do alonger linear light that actully lights the table not the ceiling . Since the table is modern I would look at modern chandeliers.Something like this maybe

Something too small for the table and that's blends in with the back wall???
