Travel plan update

Well, we decided to wait another day for departure. We could make it to Bloomington, IL okay but I think we'd be stuck there for a couple days due to the conditions in KY/TN/GA. I think my friend who left MN yesterday for FL will be stuck in Illinois. Such crazy weather and bad timing for our travels.

Reminds me of a story I read about people in the arctic and time tables meant nothing to when the planes were leaving...it was all and only about the weather...

Makes sense, why risk an unpleasant and uncomfortable situation.

I agree with your decision to wait, I bet your cats do too. 😊

Do you have a moving van full of belongings that you need to meet at your new house?

@maddielee - no, we flew down there in December to meet our movers so our stuff is already there.

I was watching the Weather Channel. Looking at Nashville and wondering what you were doing. You are a wise woman!

When I was working, I had to drive in the bad weather. When I retired, I promised myself not to do that anymore. I have for the most part, except for dr apptmts...

Yup that is a big plus for retirement - not having to go out when the roads are treacherous

I applaud your decision. Why take unnecessary risks?

Is somebody at the new house taking care of pipes and plants for you?

We don’t know anyone there yet but I don’t have any plants and it’s not in a deep freeze area.

I am so glad you changed your departure plans. You would have been stuck somewhere for sure. Better to stay home, safe than to risk the frustrations of snowy, icy travel.

Im sure you are frustrated. Packed and ready to go. it will all be there whenever you get there. Good luck.

My friends who are headed for FL from MN took off today from IL heading south. Will be interesting to hear how that goes - hopefully they stay safe one way or another.

The Canucks (NHL) played in Buffalo on Saturday night and play in Columbus today at 1pm. They were scheduled to fly out by charter after the game on Saturday but Buffalo was (is?) shut down so on Sunday they chartered a bus to drive to Toronto and then flew out of Toronto to Columbus. Probably took them back to their Junior hockey playing days when they bussed everywhere.

Blfenton, I read this to DH who is from Toronto (so grew up watching Buffalo and Toronto tv and sports). Sunday, he and DS were at the airport in TO learning that their flight had been cancelled, and as they came down the escalator from the service desk to rebook they saw several hockey players with their stick bags in a food place (I don’t remember if it was cafe, fast food, restaurant). We wonder if they were Canucks!

So my MN friends who spent the night in IL and headed out for FL this morning are almost there. They diverted to the west through Birmingham (I24 was closed) and then over to FL. Very happy to hear they made it safely through the bad weather.

One of my good friends was visiting her mom in Lexington, Ky, this weekend. She tried to leave this morning, got two hours south, and had to slowly pull off at an exit and get a hotel. A tractor trailer jackknifed in front of her!

@nini804 - I saw a bunch of pictures of jackknifed semis on the news. That’s the kind of thing that scares me. 😳

I've been thinking of you and am glad to see you decided to wait. Wise decision. As I often say- who needs that extra excitment?

Safe travels when you decide the time is right.
