I prefer round pendants, so that I don't feel like I have to be constantly straightening up square pendants. Having them "crooked" like in your photo would drive me crazy! You could a brushed silver tone to tie in with your stainless steel appliances.

I think the island is too small for such large lights and they look odd being so close.

Depending on what you choose, you may end up having to change the dining room light as well, so be sure you have a look in mind that works with both spaces.
